Okay so here goes, I've got this 89 celica convertable that I bought from my boss. Been sitting fer a while while I make her look the way I want when I come along a 88 supra turbo parts car. So my plan was to convert the shitty celica to a super celica. I want to enter her in the 2010 GrassRoots Challange. I just want to get some input to see if ya'll are okay with me doing this here.

I have another project thats going to happen with this project that I'll post later, I'm going to build a mkiii time attack car that i plan to compain in allot of races. I have her sitting right now as I have pulled the motor to put it in another supra.

So as we go on that about sums it all. When I get the okay from yall Ill give more info and post some pic sence I see yall like em so much.

This is how she sits as of today

Im trying to get in a couple of hours a wk to her. The 89 supra is a complete car so i have everything i need to do the swap. I just need to rebuild the motor. My focus is to get the footwork done first, the hardest part. The rest will be easy. I plan on mounting the engine as low and move it rearward about 6 in.

Im not the "boss" here but im sure it would be 100% okay with everyone, we have a guy on here swapping a LS1 into his supra, so im sure if there not bothered by that they will be bothered by nothing, lol.

Sounds like a good project. We always like new ideas around these parts ;). Post up the pics you have of your cars and start the swap! I'll be watching, but only if you give pictures. Words are boring :p.

I also have an 89 celica convertible. I thought about that project before but I new I didnt have the skills to put such a big engine in such a small car lol.... dont forget the wheelie bar lol!!

BTW, I was also going to convert my celica to a 3sgte. Which would've converted it from fwd to awd.

You could easily just keep the fwd transmission from any gt or gts celica for the 3sgte and keep it fwd if you wanted. Doing the whole awd conversion might be a bit much, although an awd convertible would be different for sure ;).

Ya I knew I couldve kept it fwd, but theres no fun in that lol. usually the jdm longblocks come with the 2 half shafts for the front wheel drive and the best upgrade would be a v8 camry tranny and diff.

I was responding to the gentleman who asked how he was going to go from fwd to rwd :icon_wink

Depending on the engine you have, you can do two "easy" swaps..

if it's a 4afe, you can swap in a multitude of different 4AGE's, ranging from 110hp, to nearly 200hp!, or even a supercharged 4AGZE, remove the SC components and turbo that bad boy, as they're alot stronger than regular 4AGE's..

if it's a 3sfe, then you can swap in a 3SGTE from a Celica all-trac or an MR2 turbo and create what's commonly refered to as a "half track" you can even use a 2.2L Camry's block and with the 3SGTE head, create a 2.2L 5SGTE, sky's the limit, but it's also definitely cheaper and easier than converting it to a RWD I6...

3sfe huh... same that was in mine, caught rod knock because of low oil pressure, by the time i figured out where the leak was coming from (dizzy) too late.

Sick to see this actually going down, I remember over on celicatech, they were talking about it but i dont think anyone was down to do it!!

I was going to swap in a 5sfe block with 3sfe head that i had rebuilt, bought the supra for 300 and was going to swap everything into a 88 auto nonturbo supra i have to make it a turbo auto supra but thought it would be cool to have a supra powered rwd convertable that i can make go sideways and stun alot of people.

Well sence i have some spare time ill tell what my plans are for her.
Twin turbo with CT26 i have like 4 sitting around. the other 2 are for the maxima and saab.
Redesigned intake manifold
Custom turbo header
Stock block and head with n/a cams
Custom coil overs
Gotta put a roll cage as i plan to race and drift
Widen the body to match the width of the supra
still looking into engine management but will look more when i get there

Alot more when i can think about it but will let yall know as i progress. I will be building everything myself so all the cost will just be in parts. Need to keep the budget under 2010 dollars. after that depending how i do i might do it again or do another car and start going all out with this one.
