Whats up community. To start My name is Ron, 19yr old college student owned a 84 as my first and got this mkiii in November 2007. Bought the car from my cousin stating that it was in great conditon. It was rebuilt n/a motor with alot of internal work, high compression pistons, cams, lightweight flywheel, headers, etc etc etc the werks. Original color was burgandy then repainted Light Auburn from a cadillac, just a lighet burgandy thats all.

Well the car ran good and suprised alot of ppl because they would swear that the way it moved it was turbo and it wasnt. Thats when i loved the car but still wanted some boost. Started gathering some parts to do a gte swap and thats when the headgasket went and a week later stated knocking and then a day later knocked really bad and that was it. I bought a 7mgte with mhg and arp bolts from a member on here, and was told that it was a good motor. Long story short, did the swap, on startup it idle perfectly, no knocking no over heating, then driving out the next nite going to a car meet about a 40 mile drive it just started overheating even tho the guage read that it wasnt. Spent most of the money i saved up this summer working two jobs to do the swap and it didnt even last for 3 days. I was pretty bumed but decided to bounce back and got with a 1j.

Being that i dumped all my money into the gte swap, its going to take a lil while to finish this project. Ideally i would love to get a targa and my plan was to do the gte swap and get the body re sprayed and sell to get a targa shell and then go all out on a build in a targa shell but since im pulling the motor again i might as well go all out in this hardtop, plus its lighter anyway. Also im done with 7m motors. No disrespect but im a lil biased from this summer and will go towards 1jz from the experience i had with 7m's.

Here are the parts list i gathered to begin and try and price things. Let me know if im missing anything.

1jz pre 89 motor mount brackets bic
us 2jz power steering hose
new 1jz thermostat (mite as well)
us 2jz throttle cable
2jz water pump setup to delete the hydrofan
Clutch hose for the r154 full length from driftmotion
Slave cylinder for the r154
jz pulley kit from driftmotion
Koyo race radiator for the 1jz
R154 polyurethane tranny mount
r154 driveshaft, mite go 1 piece
r154 clutch kit
1jz lightweight flywheel
1j oil pressure sender adapter
cost of sending the harness out to get extended.
stock 1j intercooler and piping
then sourcing a 1jz motor and trany combo

I plan to run it with my 4.30 lsd rear end, and do bpu upgrades with the stock twins be4 i go standalone and then single to a t67. I will begin parting out my 7m parts 2moro and maybe begin ordering some jz parts before the end of the week. First is to take care of my tuition and books for school.

here are some pics from my previous build thread, just a few, tho

That's a bummer to go thru all that hard work for naught..... I wouldn't blame ya if you threw in the towel on it altogether.

Hopefully you'll have better luck with the JZ... I've been very happy with 2JZ swapped MKIII and was already in when I bought it; reliable so far.

You have a good shell to start with so take your time and don't cut corners, when you're done you'll have a fast and reliable ride and for all the hard work you've put in, you'll never want to let the car go.

I applaud you for having a enough discipline to put school matters FIRST and foremost - - At your age so many others would not do the same.

Good luck and look forward to your build up!

cool my name is ronald too.

Yes school matters come first. School actually pays for most of the car. i always have an issue with finiancial aid due to my grandparents claiming me on my taxes and questioning my new york state residency since my father recently moved to georgia. So i always have to come out of pocket and pay everything upfront then get reimbursed later in the school year. my scholarships plus the money i get from financial aid is more than the tuition and books so im have almost 1500 each semester to play around with and since i am a supra owner, all that basically goes into the car. When i get a targa top i definitely plan on going 2j. thanks for the support.

A buddy of mine just purchased a clean red targa top i think 91 mkiii. he is going to be a good add to the community. Has alot of exsperiance with cars and have a 700hp camaro rolling around. Cant wait to see what he does with the mkiii. He had a n/a previously. Smh he is already thinking 2j lol
