Okay I've been putting this off for awhile, and I haven't photo documented enough, but finally took some recent pictures and figured I'd kick this off for at least myself.
*WARNING* LONG Abridged History, Pictures at the bottom for convenience.
General Outline of "Project Black Hole": open the hood. Everythings black.
Down and dirty History: *Very abridged
2006 Bought a 1987 Pearl White MKIII turbo 5sp, was in great shape previous owner put maybe 5k in two years, Bought it for 3500 with 125,000 Miles on it. Main selling point, had recently had a factory head gasket job done, (Every supra I've owned I've done a HG job one) So i picked it up.
Sure as shit. couple months down the road, Rod Knock. So In a hurry to get her back up bought a Used engine someone had pulled from a recently running car. due to an electrical gremiln they couldn't find and so he parted it out. Well a month later and the engine in wouldn't start. I spent the better part of a year trying to get it running, Finally w/ help from rob a 935 motorsports, we discovered that one of my cams was missing the dowl to hold it in place.. put one in and she started up.
So after some time I've done mild upgrades, BOV, boost controller, PCV piping, LEX afm/550s, AFPR full 3" exhuast turbo back. Was fine then I did my tour in Iraq.
The build:
While out there I started planning my build, and what I wanted. So after returning, I had planned to take my old engine (rod knock) and get it completely machined, go w/ Eagle pistons/rods, ARP hardware, mild Port polish on the head along w/ 3 angle. Well as luck would have it, Found a completely built engine w/ exactly that. So I bought that. Took it home stripped it down, checked it over and re-assembled. Well after some time money became an issue so my build slowed down. During that period I installed a upgraded oil pump to block line to help w/ oil flow as well as shimmed the pump. Now Fast FWD to current.
While I've been working on this other engine I've been thinking about what I want to do while the engine is being swapped and I came up w/ "Project Black Hole." Unfortunatly I've gone through 2 BHGs recently, first one was a slow on comming one I've had for awhile and just tried to ignore, finally it became problemmatic enough that I had to fix it. So I did a quick, poor mans fix, Head off, scraped and cleaned the head and block, Felpro Gasket w/ Gasket sealer, and Back on. Just wanted a temp fix. Unfortunatly that temp fix lasted 2.5 months, So I figured it was a good time to Garage it, and Start a swap.
Outline of "Project Black Hole": open the hood. Every things Black/silver. The Idea is I don't want to much to POP out at you when you pop the hood, Personally I'm not a bling guy. I'm doing the opposite that most people do. I order Bling and powder coat it. Virtually everything that can be powder coated, is coated, if not, I'll try and spray it. if I can't spray it.. I suck it up. The Engine bay itself is going to get the Rhino lining treatment. The only real silver I'm having are vacuum lines and the SS lines. Pros: easier to clean Con: you'll never know you have an oil leak Pros: you'll never have an oil leak.. that you know of
