I have one, but do I have to keep with this type of power steering rack? Can I use one from an N/A without PPS. Also, I have a 1990, any difference between the 89+ and 88 and below?

I'll quote Jeff Lange on this one, or something close to what he said.
86.5-88 N/A and turbo's used the same rack(non PPS), 89-92 used the PPS rack in the turbo's and the N/A used the non- PPS on the 89-92 N/A's.

Yeah, the size of some stuff is different, I don't believe you can use a PPS rack in a car without PPS and vice versa, without changing other parts as well.
not to mention the different sized pulleys on the PS pump for the different pressures that the racks operate at...
