Problems with tilt steering column

My steering column only locks in one position and that is all the way down. Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do to fix it? I have a complete column still sitting in the 87 turbo and the tilt functions properly. Should I just swap them?

Hmm, never seen that before. Just confirming what Poodles said, there are 3 adjustments on the column. Tilt, telescoping, and release, the release lever is to move it out of the way to get in and out of the car, and upon moving the column back down it locks into the previous position, which is whatever is set via the tilt adjustment.

Just making sure you're not trying to use that lever, which I would assume you're not, since you said your 87 works fine. If it is indeed malfunctioning, I would take the covers off and see if it can be fixed. If not, you'll probably be in for a column swap.

Yeah, I'm familiar with all the levers:biglaugh:

When you release it to go up it won't lock in any position to except the very bottom. That annoys me because all the way down blocks my view of the temp gauge. It's not something it just started doing, just up until now I haven't been able to drive the car. I'll add this to my list of gliches to look into.
