So what do I need to do to these pistions to make them work? I have already gone threw each pistion and removed all the access shavings on them next plan is to have them ceramic coated. But I keep seeing that the sharp edges need to be ground down but witch ones?

You're putting Probes in a 700hp buildup?
I have Probes, but I wouldn't use them for that hp target.
I vaguely remember the consensus during the group buy was that these were intended for the sub-500hp range.,
but I don't really know why people were arriving at that number. I'm going with Wiseco's for my next build, and I'm only planning
for ~500hp.

Well, like I said- I don't know why people were throwing around lower numbers for the Probes.
If stock pistons can handle 400+, I don't see why forged probes couldn't handle some much bigger numbers.

No not e85. Was planning on getting them ceramic coated and I don't understand why they couldn't handle those numbers either. Guess we will find out. Supraguy did you have to sand any sharp edges off your pistions.

Yes, you will need to sand it down. No way around it. You could use a dremel or if you know someone with a lathe and they're experienced, they can do it as well.

Too bad you bought them already. I never got why they don't fix that issue rather than keep making them that way.

I'd only use CP, they are proven in high HP builds from Lambos to Supras.

Yes, I sanded them down with a dremel.
It's the edges of the valve reliefs that we're talking about. Probe made the reliefs
oversize in case the customer went with bigger valves. Peoblem is, it leaves a sharp little ridge next to the edge of the piston.
Sharp edges= hotspots=pre-ignition= detonation..
CP's are proven... and Wiseco's are not?

I never said Weisco's have not been proven. I have seen CP pistons in high HP builds more often. Maybe Weisco could do the same but I haven't seen them as often as CP.

Just my opinion.

Ok cool thank you for that info man that's what I was looking for. And ya the motor has already been bored the the probe specs. So hopping the coating and water meth injection will help keep them cool enough for my hp goals.

We have a 850HP Evo at the shop on 50 psi of boost with wiseco pistons. I've seen plenty of motors with JE and wiseco pistons hold 1000HP.

So what is your P2W? The machine shop bored the block and set the P2W with the coatings already on right? if not........

The thing is, Once they do a plateau hone you cant just have them take off another .0005 or .001 thou as they do it in steps and the lighter the stone it flattens out the grooves of the cross hatching. Run no coating or go to a bigger piston and have them re bore and hone to that with the coatings.

yeah, reason when ever someone asks about a motor build, or I'm building a motor I always go with the smallest option that will work in the block, that way if anything ever happens it can always go up another size. I went with .20 over and now changing from probe's to JE's and going to end up going with .40 over or starting with another block

Are you sure your bore is maxed out? You could get your block sonic tested to see how much your working with. That will take the guessing game out of how much you can safely bore it. Piston choice boils down to application/budget vs popularity. I think I'm the only one with Diamond Racing pistons.
