Since finding this forum I've been able to correct some very annoying problems, so let me say thank you to everyone who advised me. The other day I replaced the bumper stops in the hatch and it no longer rattles, and today I replaced the bushings in the auto gearshift and it no longer wobbles and feels tight and smooth (like I like it :naughty: ). The last annoying problem for me is the damn oil pressure gauge. I hooked up a volt meter up to the wire and it only read about .5 volts. What should it be reading if anybody knows? Very frustrating. Why couldn't it have been the volt gauge instead?:icon_conf

Obviously my gauge is grounded somewhere. Is it possible for it to be grounded inside the gauge itself because I have corrected the rough spot in the wiring and checked out the rest of the harness and can't find any other defects. The guy who I bought it from said it started this after he had a new timing belt installed.

did you measure the resistance across the terminals (behind the gauge cluster) of the oil pressure gauge? That right there will tell you whether or not it's good.

And the gauge is in series with the sender which is grounded on the block.

No I have not due to the amount of trouble it would be (for me) to remove the cluster. I'm not quite sure what all is involved in removing the cluster. I don't mean removing the bezels but wiring and speedo cable. I'm afraid I'll f*ck something up.

yeah, you take apart pretty much all of the interior trim pieces around the steering wheel. Then there's like 5 screws holding the cluster in. Take those out and pull the cluster forward. The speedo cable sits in a little holder so when you pull the cluster foward it'll pop out. Then you can tilt the cluster foward and just take the plugs out. OR when you lean it forward, you can just measure the resistance there.

I went to a salvage yard today and "practiced" on a junked out turbo cluster. It was ridiculously simple and I felt like a dumbass for asking. I think I will just find a nicer non turbo cluster and replace the whole damn thing.
