Power Steering

my power steering pump took a crap on me the other day and i dont really care to fix it. how hard would it be to

1) pull the pump and everything off, res. pump. lines etc.
2) re-route a line from the in and out so its a closed system a again
3) put a little fluid in that line to keep the rack from burning up

anyone ever try?

keep in mind that trying to control a 3200+ car in an emergency manuever when it is meant to have power steering will probably be NOT happen. Hope you haven't tried parallel parking without PS

trust me you do NOT want to lose control of that car without power steering. Power steering gives you a chance. No power steering and you WILL be royally fucked in that event.

When I did my engine swap when i first got my car, one of my P/s lines got pinched and pissed fluid all over the place, so i cut the belt until I was able to fix the problem.
Drove it for a week or so with no p/s. Fixed the problem; took the car for a test drive for the first time with p/s and cut the belt as soon as I pulled in front of my house. i've been driving like this for a good year now. I'm going to put a belt on the p/s pump sometime this week and see how I like it, since i lowered my car. I have a feeling i wasted $6 on a belt.

Why in god's name did you get rid of the PS? Horsepower? Weird Fetish? You like punishment?

I drove without it for 5 minutes and couldn't stand it. Of course, my system was still full of fluid, too.

haha yeah but put yourself in my shoes is it really worth buying a new pump? my pump is whats trashed not just a belt or a pinched line haha, how hard is that stuff to pull anyway?

Oh, the pump is really easy to replace. I promise, it's not hard. I'll even take some pics of what you have to loosen for you if you want.

i love driving with out p/s. i honestly have no problem driving/parking.

my engine stalled at like 45 going downhill through winding roads yea it was hard to stear especialy when i had to get into a driveway.

you'll have thicker arms, i drove a 56 belair w/ no ps and bigass street tires on it. i had to crank the wheel on that a 0 miles per hour, you do need both hands and your hips to manage that one.

How about finding a manual rack, or maybe taking the steering damper(stabilizer) off? I'm sure a manual rack off some other toyota would work.

I put my power steering belt on this morning and it didn't even last me all day. After about 2 hours of driving I had to cut the belt off. For some reason to me P/s is scary on the highway. It feels like the car over steers. I even had a friend drive my car and tell me how it felt with saying anything to him and he felt the sameway about it.

No p/s is not bad at all, once you get the car moving its a piece of cake. Yeah its a little tough when your rolling, but all it takes is a little muscle. Does anyone else out there drive their supra without P/S? My driving style calls for No P/s.

I couldn't agree with you more. I love my Supra w/o p/s, it just feels more sturdy and controlable. And it's not that hard to turn at low speeds! If you disagree, you need to hit the gym.
