I installed a new power steering pump yesterday and bleed the system. Its still whining and still generating a lot of foam in the reservoir. It is also still really hard to turn when its at idle. I did run it for about 3 months with no belt on. Any ideas?

A couple of things that might cause the problem are the screen in the reservoir being clogged. The other is if the pps is not plunged in.

Second on the res screen and air in the system, How did you bleed it?

Also could add a inline filter to help clean the system.

Like others said, make sure you use ATF, but my guess is that your screen is clogged. Its a bitch to get real clean too and even jif you think it isc clean it more.

Tonight I will clean the screen, replace the power steering fluid with atf, and bleed it again and will let you know how it goes. Thanks for the answers.

Check the feed hose from the reservoir to the pump make sure there are no kinks or binds in that hose, mine got soft and started to collapse when the car was running, it was partially kinked just sitting but collapsed during running. And for the fifth or sixth time ATF only.

Brake cleaner or purple power or simple green.

Spray it in shake aroubnd for a while rinse repeat. Also soaking it for a night would help as well.

Ok so cleaned the res. screen, flushed all the old fluid out, added proper fluid, and checked all the lines. Now it sounds alot better all i have to do is bleed the system and I think that should do it. Thanks for all the tips!
