Well i took my car to the body shop recently because someone ran into it, was just getting the front end repaired. Took them about three times the original estimate time to finish the car, and i picked it up, looked great, drove it around all day, comes night time and i go to turn on my lights, NOTHING. The headlamp switch is completely busted, the knob on the stalk free-spins and doesn't do anything, no amount of pushing together and turning does anything, i can hear a spring loose in the stalk.
So i take it back to them telling them they broke my headlight switch, they dont admit to it, but after a lot of argueing i get them to order a new switch (stalk) and replace it at the other guys' insurance cost. So they take the car once again and replace the stalk with a brand new one from Toyota. The turn switch unit and clockspring etc were left alone as the stalk is sold seperately.
Picked up the car and go to test it all out, and now the thing clicks onto the highbeam setting extremely easily. VERY easily. I can hear a slight tick as i pull the stalk towards me and put it in low beam mode, and as soon as i touch the thing it clicks into high beam. Its like it has almost lost the detent. Every time i turn my signal on, and make a turn, the action of the stalk snapping back to the neutral position throws my switch into high beams
Called the shop back and they tell me there is nothing they can do, its not their fault, and that because of the age of the car its something wrong with my car. They say they replaced only the stalk and not anything dealing with the highbeams or turn signal switch, and that what they did has no affect on what i explain is my problem. I argued and still they deny any responsibility, blaming the problem on the age of the vehicle.
My big question is HOW does the detent for the high beams work? Is there a ball and spring they left out, what could they have done to cause this so i can prove to them they made the mistake and need to fix it. I looked in the TSRM and there is limited info, here is what i found.

PLEASE help me with my dilemma as i have to bring this issue up to them quickly. Thanks for any help. If someone has a switch unit out and could look at it and see exactly what detent holds the switch out of and in high beam mode would be great.
