As some of you know, I just put a motor in my 87T to replace my crashed 90. Motor is in, and as far as I know, everything is hooked up correctly. I am not getting anything out of the key except a click out of the starter relay. I have run a wire to be sure the starter is good, and it is. From there, I tried to get the car started, with no luck. I had Jim (N2FISHN69) over today helping. We found that it is not getting fire, or fuel. We jumped the clutch safety switch, and still nothing out of the key. We also checked the 6 wire plug at the igniter, and got nothing with the key engaged as starting. I do have all power inside the vehicle (dash lights, locks, power windows). We have checked all fuses under the hood, and the lower (engine)level in the kick panel. I am assuming there is something that powers both the ignition and the fuel pump. Please point me in the right direction.

so its not cranking over? or its cranking over but not starting?

if its just not cranking over but you can jump the starter and it turns on.... check the stock alarm.

if its cranking over and youre not getting fuel or spark check a) efi fuse, do you have a check engine light with the key in the on position? b) the cps make sure its where it should be and the wires are all ok.... if they are dry rotted and hard they can be a pain sometimes.

hope that helps

It's not crankiong over with the key, but it will if I jump the starter. When jumping the starter, it cranks over, but still will not start. We can't see it getting any fire, or fuel. EFI fuse appears OK. I don't suspect a fuse, because it was running fine with the old motor, until it just wouldn't hold water anymore. But, it makes sense to me that something should be sending power to both the fuel pump and the igniter. Could it be an issue at the ECU?

try jumping the fuel pump by connecting the +B and the FP terminals on the diag box and see if you get fuel...

if the cps is working you wont have spark or fuel

Try checking the ground wires (white and black) paired two and two, sometimes two and three. They should be under the intake manifold.

Most commonly missed after an engine BHG job or a reinstall.

Ideal, wouldn't you mean if the CPS is NOT working?

MDC.......I have those grounds connected......but possibly to the wrong bolt on the manifold (I don't think so)........Would it make a difference? I know some bolts don't go thru the upper part of the mani.

I have the 90 I can swap parts over from, and I will do some of that today. I will start with the igniter and coil pack...and CPS last, cause I think I will have connector issues there grey/green.

Wouldn't matter... as long as they are grounded. Test for continuity.

Also, IIRC the cps controls spark and injector fire. Change the cps and test for continuity through the plug.

MDC....swapped igniter and coil pack with no luck. Will need to get Jim back over here to check continuity. It's a known good CPS, unless it can go bad from sitting a while (heard they can).

Ken......100 amp is good..........and what the hell is your sig saying.....me no understand

I had a no spark issue when i first bought my supra checked coil pack and igniter and they were good then i looked at the CPS wiring and it appeared good but i wiggled one around a bit and it broke easily, so i jumped it with an alligator clip and had spark. I guess im tryin to say check the CPS wires.

The things I've seen cause no power is the f/L you checked and the ground wire(smaller one from the neg post on the battery to body) , big ground bolting to block. Its got to be something simple overlooked. If the CPS, igniter etc was bad, it would still crank over, just not start. is it getting 12v to starter's solenoid when cranking??

actually easiest way to see if the cps is working or not... when its cranking see if the tach jumps up a bit... if it DOES...then the cps is working right ...if it doesnt then cps is your problem.

I have to use my remote start switch to start my supra i just get clicks with the key as well, but my no spark was caused by a CPS wire being broke. check the wires even if they look fine. not saying this is your problem but its a possibility.
