There are lots of threads pointing to SF threads, which I never can read because I have no login... :sadwavey:

Can someone tell me how I go about getting a login for SF, and why new accounts have been disabled for ever??

I'm pretty sure it's random, at least as far as anyone on the outside knows. It's to control the troll population, but who knows the mods time schedule. You basically have to keep trying until you get "lucky".

Dont worry Jwhiting, you're really not missing alot over there... Alot of elitist MKIV owners and bickering... The MKIII forums are littered with first car owners asking the same questions over and over... I still go there, but dont post nearly as much as I do here... Not as much drama here, not as much "stupidity"...

This forum really is a higher class than SF. I frequent both each time i go to one, so i don't miss anything, but this forums is much nicer, more specific, and better helping.

I will go out on a limb and predict a slow spiral down the drain of SupraForums - closing off the site for new members is just the tip of the iceberg on my reasoning for this.

I love the part about closing off the site for new members - but come on, closing it so that a non-member can't even read the threads? (I do understand about doing this for some sections though - OT).

SF has become a P/L for one vendor and they are holding the community hostage - even if most people can't see that right now.

This arrangement has all but killed creative projects in the group.

SF has evolved into a forum centered around OffTopic - with some side conversations occasionally taking place actually about Supras. People there seem more concerned with asking "I just took a breath, what should I do now?" than actually contributing to the community. The most popular threads over there are about pr0n. When I need to do my pr0n research I know where to go - and even how to keep my results from showing up on the google searches if/when they finally cave to the government and give up that data (hint: don't do random searches to get your pr0n fix).

Why not get rid of OT? That should fix the slowness problem (and the troll problem) but that would kill more than half the readers over there. SF is currently a much better marketing venue than the graveyard that is i-supra.com. Think about it. If you have a marketing budget to spend on website advertising would you choose the website that generates 100 posts each month or the one that generates 1,000,000 posts each month?

Don't even start on the slowness and timeouts on that board. Sure... they have a lot of traffic. There are forums out there with more and you don't see them having this problem. This can be fixed. They don't want to fix it.

I am very thankful to have the creative freedom over here - and at celicasupra.com to actually do things FOR the community.

I think that the problem is that SF is way overloaded with active members and posting pointless threads, thus causing to put limitations on random or certain accounts. That why I like it here soo much more.

I like SF because the MKIII section has more views and input than SM. Not saying I like it, that's just the way it is.

I like it here too because there's more respect and more people can relate, on SF 99% of threads get invaded with bullshit, trolls, and flaming. I wish it was strictly just information, but oh well what can you do?

The problem that SF faces is tough to address, and I'm glad we aren't in the same position. Since the F&F movies (mostly, anyhow) every kid wants to own a real (read, Mk4) Supra. If they can't own one, the next best thing is to be on the forum for people who do.

These Supra-less kids act like the king of the world, and cause a huge amount of problems for the moderators. They flame at will, offend anything with eyes and reading skills, and are good enough at impersonating real Mk4 owners that it's difficult or impossible to distinguish between the two.

We're mostly immune here because the Mk3 isn't 'cool' enough to attract them.

I honestly can't figure out how I'd deal with the situation - but I'm sure that if anyone has some constructive suggestions, the admin team there would be happy to listen.

The other thing that I really appreciate about SM is when you have a problem, it's addressed, confronted, and fixed... If you have jack asses trolling around they're gone before they can make things too bad... If a forum is getting out of hand, our mods pull it together relatively quick... And I have YET to have a mod HERE fuck with one of my threads... On SF, I've had my threads "RE-TITLED" before to make fun of me or my point... And when I ask about it, not even the admins know anything, hmmm... Also, you see people over there who have LOTS of posts getting their for sale threads deleted... About once a week you have some poor guy posting "I dont know why a mod keeps deleting my thread, but oif you would tell me what rule Im breaking so I can sell my stuff, yada yada yada"...

This site is more like a big family...

Also, the admin/mods seem to care more about what WE the members want... Like the "Build" forum... We were all making the threads, so they made us a forum... Any suggestions are welcome with open ears... So its really nice...

Anyway, just puttin a few more cents into the pot...

I think both sites contain a wealth of information, you just have to wade through more crap on SF.

That said, I spend a bit more time on SF than SM mostly just because it seems like (despite all the bs which i don't pay attention to) more just happens over there.

On the other hand I really like the way this forum is run and have resolved to start being over here more as well.

I think an IQ test as part of the new member registration process would help out a great deal. All the old members should have to take it and score a minimum level to retain thier membership status as well.
