so im getting ready to put my motor together but need some help and assurance that the rings are being installed correctly. I have a set of NPR rings from drift motion and a checked the gaps to check if they were in spec ( used 2jz spec since i couldnt find a 1jz) 1st ring came out to .027 on all 6 cyl and the second ring came out to .022 on cyl 1-4 &6 while cyl 5 came out to .021. Im going to install them on the piston but i noticed that the second ring has a stepped edge to it, and the lettering is on the reverse side of the ring. So im confused which side goes towards the top?

The letter goes to the top, I used the same rings you bought and the JZ run the same bore, so 2JZ specs are fine.
