Hi guys, a couple things I need really fast:

-I've dont nearly everything to install a new clutch, only old piece left is the pilot bearing. Unfortunately, I do not have the SST needed for removing it. When you push on it and spin (as per TSRM) you can feel roughness in it (like slightly flat spotted balls) but nothing major. My Spec kit obviously came with a new one and I would like to either A) leave it in; B) if anyone knows how to remove it without the SST please LMK ASAP.

-On my new PP and FW there are very tiny spots of rust on certain small areas of teh friction surfaces of each. Do I need to be concirned with them? Its just that the extreme humidity that even in my house the pieces are rusting; and its really driving me crazy. You can file it off slightly with a brillo pad but I didn't want to do anything more to the friction surface. All input is appreciated.

Thanks to all the night owl SF viewers who can help

I'm really not trying to kill with crossposts; but i'm so sick of the car on jackstands I just want to get her driving again. Thanks!

What you do is hydraulic it out of there. Use wet toilet paper and stuff as much as you can into the middle of the bearing. Find a bolt that fits perfectly inside the bearing and tap the end of the bolt, the toilet paper will get squashed in behind the bearing.Repeat this as many times as nessecary till eventually the bearing will come out. Piece of cake..hth..

MDC is away for now :( I reciently spoke to him about the CT-26 shim kit and he informed me about it.

I just spent way too much money on the SST for it. Better safe then sorry I believe. For the future though I'll ask MDC.

On a better note though, so far getting everything out and getting the new clutch assembled have gone fairly trouble free with a buddy of mine helping drop the trans and with bellhousing bolts.

you can fill the volume behind the pilot bearing with greese. Then take that clutch alignment tool you get with your clutch kit (if you have R154, you dont need the alignment tool) and drive the nose of the tool into the center hole of the bearing with a hammer.. this should drive the bearing out..

i rented a pilot bearing puller from advanced auto parts. didnt cost much and worked alot better than the puller i made in the basement, the end just snaped right off.

Okay, so I got the puller and after cranking with a bit of force on that for little bit, it popped out no problem.

Now I have a new dilema. I hammered in the new bearing with my dead blow and its perfectly flush with the edge of the crank. (FW is not on) I can't seem to get it on any further then that. Is it all the way in? Is it a problem if the trans has to push it in ever so slightly more to get it all the way or do I just need to try and tediously hammer it in with a socket over the outer ring?
