Where can i get a pilot bearing puller that's small enough to fit into the 7m pilot bearing hole? Anyone out there have the seal pop off the bearing while using the "grease method" to pop the bearing out?

Yeah the "grease method" will work fine to get the bearing out.

use wet toilet paper.

Its cheap and it works, and shouldn't push through as easily as grease.

awesome, thanks. Yeah, i remember someone telling me that a while ago. I'll give it a go and see how it works out. But does anyone know of a puller otherwise that'll work?

I just bit the bullet and bought the SST mentioned in the TSRM.

After getting it out I realized there was not going to be any way in hell that some weird grease like method was going to pull that sucker out. It too some force even with the proper tool.

well the grease method would be the easiest but the dirtiest. It doesn't requires hardly any force at all but the force that u put on the bolt that u hit with a hammer. You put grease in the hole and fill it up then put a bolt that fits the hole snug, then bang on the bolt... slowly but surely the Pilot bearing should come out unless the Seal breaks, like mine did. I used wet toilet paper and it's alot less messy than the grease method, more time consuming but got the job done none the less for FREE.

When I did my clutch I had to make a puller. I ended up getting the slide hammer and I made an attachment with a lag bolt that a ground down and connected it with some pluming parts. I might have some pics lying around. I will see it I can put them up.

Except when you tried every one of those methods... and they didn't work. ;)

what are u talking about? Grease method didn't work because of the low quality of the pilot bearing the seal broke. Usually on a High quality bearing the seal doesn't break and the method works great. Otherwise wet toilet did the trick, perfectly.

well I figured the toilet paper would work better I guess cause its solid. I knew I had a 50% chance one way or the other. Well it didnt work for me and ended up having to dig all of that out of there. So I tried the grease method and it worked beautiful. I think cause grease is more fluid and can fill the cavity better than a solid like toilet paper. I dont know. I wanted to post this for common knowledge though. You can use an old head bolt to stick in the bearing hole. I wrapped mine one revolution with a piece of duct tape. Gave it a tighter fit. Just for those of you that dont want to leave your project and spend half an afternoon shopping for something thats going to work for you. Like me!:biglaugh:

I know, But when that plastic seal on the bearing pops out, Then the toilet method works awesome... Just takes time... fill it up, Tap, Fill it up, Tap, over and over again, Until the bearing comes out, Again the toilet paper has to be wet.

this isnt hard...if you have an autozone or the such around you they rent tools out for free.

go there and ask for a slide hammer, and the pilot bearing attachment...

go back to your house, attach the pilot bearing part to the slide hammer...insert it into the middle of the pilot bearing..only one of the two prongs on the attachment will fit inside the pilot bearing but its not a problem..put one and make sure the adjustment screw is all the way out so its opened as much as possible...put pressure on a direction with the prong.....slide the hammer back one good time and bam pilot bearing out... no muss no fuss...

return tools... be happy.
