Pertaining to gaskets

specifically the intake manifold gasket, throttlebody gasket, iacv etc..

as there are higher quality gaskets for the head, would there be a similiar offering for these other types?

i recently replaced the gasket along the intake manifold with a OEM new one, and about 3 weeks later there is a piercing screech coming out of somewhere along the fuel rail/intake manifold area..

do we have anything available delivering a better sealing assurance?

Most likely you did something wrong.
I have made gaskets out of cerial boxes, that worked just fine.
You should also check for a vacuum hose that came off somewhere.

the old gasket was pretty much fused with the manifold and it tore.. im thinking we either kinked the gasket trying to put it back on and balancing all of the lines running through the spaces of the intake manifold or we didnt clean it off properly and there's a slight space somewhere.

i was hoping there was something more durable available than the thin cardboard from the dealer which seems pretty damn frail.

p.s. cereal box? any issues? which cereal :D

The OEM gaskets have never been a problem for me, you just need to make sure you clean all of the old material off. For that I use gasket scrapers, razor blades, and brake cleaner. The brake cleaner helps do speed the disintegration process of the material (or so it seems), and the scraper helps to get the big chunks. What's left of it use a razor blade on, but make sure not to dig it into the aluminum.

I also coat them in copper spray to help fill in any imperfections in the mating surfaces.

Well, the only issue is finding a box that is big enough to cut an intake gasket out of.......

Stictly a last ditch alternative......

They make disks for a grinder that are made specificly to remove gaskets, as well as spray that will dissolve them. Never had to spray anything on them to make them seal, just get all the old stuff off.

The real danger is, if you don't have all the old stuff off you risk cracking the manifold.

i'll definitely look into that this weekend then. do you guys recommend a product for the dissolving or should brake cleaner be sufficient?

im not going to try the grinder disk lol.. wouldnt wanna to deal with a boo in that situation.

Stock gaskets are fine, another thing to check based on your statement is the injector o-rings/gaskets. Those become hard and brittle over time. Ive herd of the same screeching issues from that aswell.

has always worked great for me. It also helps to stick the gaskets in place during install to prevent binding when installing manifolds/sensors etc.

*update*

haven't tackled my ITM or injectors yet for the vacuum leak but i have fixed my boost cut issue!

line running from the compressor housing of the turb to the waste gate had melted and left an open hole for boost to escape..

things are finally looking up!
