well im rebuilding my motor, and iits really nasty with oil every where, the turbo seal was blown and was pissing oil every where, well since some parts are off like the exhaust and intake mani, i want to dip it in a cleaner that can take off the oil, like acid that is safe for metal and aluminum, would any one can recommend me a acid or solvent cleaner that is real strong and safe? thanks

You could soak it in a tank of mineral spirits.. Personally I would take my time and hand clean each part with brake clean or carb clean and a tooth brush.

My favorite is MEK. Probably will want to use gloves as you'll be losing a layer or 2 of skin the next day each time you use it.

Yes, it's super toxic, but it definitely does the job. You'll clean everything off metal... including most plastics and any finish that was on.

"real strong and safe"... not sure if there is going to be an easy solution to that. Real strong seems to be almost directly related to unsafe. LOL

i like ether. cleans well, no residue and wont eat paint. however, these days it's harder to get and if you buy it often the atf will come knocking on your door.

I use purple power and a large bucket from Home Depot. I dilute it about five to one with water in the bucket and soak parts for one to two days. They come out grease, oil, and paint free. It's not as strong as other cleaners but it gets the job done and is unlikely to give you cancer with brief exposure. Just don't leave aluminum in there for more than say two days or it will start to etch.

im gonna be cleaning the intake mani and such

Looks like it to me, I get it from sears so it's kleen-strip brand but it should be the same sort of 99+% pure MEK. It's found by all the other paint chemicals (acetone, denatured alcohol, etc) usually.

Just use gloves, and try to work in a ventilated space... you'll see why the second you open the top. And remember, NO PLASTICS. It'll pretty much melt them... even a nearly non-existant amount on plastic. (I laid a, what I thought was evaporated, MEK rag on a plastic drill index to find it had melted to the drill case a couple hours later. LOL)

Get some gasoline. 87 unleaded, mask, gloves, Nylon brush kit, a bucket. Freak 3 gallons of gas lasted me two weeks and did all my parts. At 2.30 a gallon it was well worth it and did its job.

Purple Power still isn't strong enough in my experience. Not to mention it eats aluminum, doesn't affect rust, and takes rediculous amounts of water to rinse off (and if left on causes issues)

varsol. very safe and very effective

Care to share where it can be purchased from? Since its so safe the EPA has levied several restrictions on its sale that parts houses no longer carry it.

I use; E85 (very abrasive if you're not careful, and let the part live in it i hear.), and Kerosine.

Diesel also works very well.

Yea, good idea! E85 is well known for being kind to Aluminum...
