I may need a headlight cover repaired. I was just wondering is there an easy way for a novice without too much mechanical ability to take them off. I am not talking about the headlights. I am talking about the painted part on top. I need to have it re cleared. I heard it was just a matter of a unscrewing the black piece, and then two screws on either side. I don't know. The things looks like it is bolted into the chassis and requires a professional with the know how and right tools. If anyone knows how and has some step by step pics that would be great . thanks

Oh...I forgot to mention. It's the pop up headlight driver's side on a 90. Have no clue how to take the thing off. Someone told me it was just a few screws and it comes off. I looked it from the back and it looks bolted to the chassis around the engine. In other words, you need someone with the right tools and skills to get this thing off. A sunday novice like me it not going to be able to figure it out. ps. I tired uploading a pic. But the uploader is not working. It keeps spinning and does upload a new picture.

Thank you. Guess once the black plastic is off it will be pretty easy. I see two holes on each side. Guess that's where the screws are. I was told to mark area with felt tip pen to put them back on properly. thanks.

Yes, mark the installed position of the cover first.
The mounting holes are oversize, so the cover can be put on in differently and loose alignment with bonnet/guard very easily.

Yep, screws are in those holes you see.

Good luck!

Thanks for your help. I was easily able to remove the black plastic cowl. Those screws were not tight. I then tried to remove the 4 screws that secure the headlight cover to the support bracket. Would not buge. Those screws for some reason were very tightly in place. A regular Phillips head didn't move them a bit. Is there a tool like a socket wrench, or something my mechanic may have to get those screws off. I tried using a little oil. Nothing.....

Understood. But how do I mark the new vented covers so I can makes holes in the right place. The ones from racingraven do not have holes. You have to drill them in the right place and do it carefully so as not to break the fiberglass. I understand marking the original covers so you can put them back in the same place. But how do you mark the new covers so you know where to drill?

No disrespect intended ...

Seriously man, if you can't manage this simple shit. Stop working on your car. Pay someone to do it for you. Not trying to be a dick, if I was you would know for sure. I would bet you are setting yourself up for a lot of trouble,

Yeh I was thinking about making a template and a ruler. I am not concerned about where to place holes. I am concerned about the color matching when I get the thing. Also concerned about drilling. I don't know which bit to use, and would probably have to guy to my mechanic. Also getting the inside screws of are impossible. The outside black piece came off very easily. The inside screws on both sides are to tight, they almost feel welded in. How do I get those inside ones off? A Philips head ain't gonna do it. No...I am not a pro at this. I have found simple things, with cars and other things in life are not simple for me. I am considered very bright bookwise and have high abstract intelligence, but I don't have a whole lot of common sense. It's like the genius who can't figure out you need to push the glass door side ways to get it to open, rather than forward. Get the picture. It runs in my family. My father is an artist, but is very clumsy does things ass backward and has oddities of thinking. It's almost a mild form of Schizophrenia. Just doesn't see the world with the same kind of cynicism everyone else has, and has the common sense of a 6 yr old. He is a wing it kind of guy. He is like a 6 yr old kid who jumps into a pool before checking how deep the water is. Consequently he has accidents all the time. If there is a potwhole he steps in it, a sheet of ice he slips on it.....get the picture. He is kind of in his own world. Sorry about getting into my family problems. But there are smart people out there who just don't handle common sense basic things very well. I also don't have a whole lot of confidence in my ability and have never DONE this before. I am going to need to go to my body shop, have them remove the thing, and then drill the holes. I don't have the bit, and will probably crack the thing. I know...to much info....just having a bad day.
