Okay.... in a nutshell...

We have a black 2000 Mitsu Galant, black 94 Supra, and a black Mica 90 MKIII.

I am getting ready to repaint (maybe myself), the Galant and the MKIII. The black Mica looks okay and you can only tell when you get up close, that it has that "redness" in it. I haven't priced out the paint , but I know plain black is fairly cheap... cost is probably not going to be the issue. My question is, what incentive do I really have to keep it black Mica? I've been happy with just glossy, clearcoated black...

Here is my 1990 as it kinda looks now....

I plan to paint the moldings to match, like I did on my 87T below.

Hee hee hee.... Uh, NO! It's a toss up between black, and black Mica....

I plan to put a good amount of clear on it, so that I can wetsand and give it a seriously-deep polish, before TX2K6.

well as long as you do a damn good job on the wet sanding and make it look sexy its gotta be worth it. Go with the black if you dont like the mica.

personally i think just black looks better. That deep dark black that when contrasted with ehite, seems to suck all the light from the areas surrounding it. i would love that, but im stuck with whatever stock shitty black paint toyota gave the 87s heh

black mica is nice but friend just repainted his plain black and it is beautiful. my car is black mica and the color is also beautiful so i say whatever you prefer.. i happen to know black mica is kinda expensive but plain black isnt that bad on price...

yeah you could do like black with blue candy over it and you wouldnt see the blue until the sun hit it a certain way.. if you like blue that is..

no just use 206 and instead of adding red pearl to it use the blue. simple as that. No need to have to mix the pearl in with the clear producing the candy.
That blue you cant see unless u get it in the sun. So at night or in the shade you'll barely see it. But when the sun hits it, its beautiful! its not too much at all!

I thought about spraying my whole car this way blue instead of the red in the in the paint. i painted my engine bay with regular deep black paint with clear. pics of this are in an old thread of mine in showoff... looks very nice post pics of the black with blue pearl in your engine bay i am very interested to see it..

dont do the pearl in the clear YOU WILL NOT LIKE IT. ask supraswole on here thats what he did to his car first time he painted it it turned the car blue all the time whether the sun hits it or not. it produced a candy effect and you cant really tell what the base color is when you put the pearl in the clear. but you can only see the pearl when the light hits it if its in the base coat. if you want to have more of an effect when light hits it just add more pearl than what stock calls for...

So I guess black and a few coats of clear? No real reason to keep the mica, right? Not ultra-rare or envied....

I personally like a deep glossy black.
Or if you want the 'blue tint' look, try to find a paint card of HoK 'Midnight Blue Black Pearl'. It's a gorgeous deep black that has a blue shimmer in direct light, but looks black in the shade/at night. Probably about 2-3 times the price of standard black, but if you were to see it in person you'd love it.
