is your fan working....is there a shroud around the fan?....did you put the thermo in correctly?....

also...i do not recommend driving a car around while its overheating.

well, both of my supra's haven't had fan shroud's. They actually run the exact same as with the shroud(temp wise). I could see if he were in a HOT location in the middle of summer, at a dead stop....but it says he from chicago and in december? I dunno, you tell me.

Just make sure your fan is working good(The clutch on the fan is prolly shot. So when you start driving, the air flowing through the radiator cools it down.). Check coolant. Check thermo. If all check out, then hope to god you don't have BHG.

well not low on coolant, ya it is winter, and i am going to check the fan tomorrow, ya it did this before i replaced the thermostat, but not at idle, the thermostat would just stay closed, so i replaced it like 300 miled ago, so its new, now all of a sudden it is overheating again, ya it is in right though

sounds like fan, beg- borrow or steal another and try it first. IJ i used to run a parts shop and it's amazing how many good brand thermostats don't work out of the box.(mostly stant),
I'd personally go a Tridon high flow over a factory toyota one any day.

I just had a genuine Toyota T Stat fail

Same here...I have had good luck with the Stant SuperStats. Regardless of brand, I test them in a pot of boiling water now to make sure they open. Cut the jiggle valve off too (after they test good).

You don't have to cut it off. Call it an old school thing from the days when stats didn't have bleed holes and we had to drill 'em. It's one less thing to go wrong. On the other hand you loose the bubble breaking action of the jiggler. Myself, I always snip it off...

This is the best advice right here^ always test them first.
