i was on my way to a camping trip and i was on the freeway and all of a sudden my car dies on me. i pull it over on the freeway, and steam pours out of the engine, i add oil and some water, but it still runs bad, so i get it towed home, and we begin to diagnose it and turns out a plug poped out while on the free way and it dumped all my radiator water on the freeway. so now we got a new plug and added water to the radiator but now it bubbles out the radiator so my best guess is a bhg. so im asking if there are any good threads on how to change the head gasket or guides, or a good idea how much this is gonna cost me to have a shop do it. im not mechanicaly comfortable with taking half my engine apart to change it myself. so any help would be appreciated.

if it is bubbling it may or may not be a BHG. It could be the cooling system is not holding pressure, causing a reduced boiling point and bam, coolant bubbles and boils. I could be wrong though, get the coolant system pressure tested first and see if the coolant system holds pressure. If it does hold pressure look into the possibility of a BHG. Good luck!

The radiator will bubble when its flushing the system of air I think

Also easiest way to see if it has a blown headgasket do a compression test

Is your car overheating now?

Is it puffing white smoke out the exhaust?

These are two very commn bhg symptoms..............

Goodluck the search button will be your best friend DW

i would personally burp the cooling system first. these cars seem to like holding air in the cooling system. park the car with the front of it on a slight hill so the the radiator cap is the highest point in the cooling system. then take off the cap and let the car warm up. make sure u turn the heater on all the way so that the air can escape from the heater core. as the air comes out, it will shoot water and air out of the radiator, just make sure u keep it full. and when it stops bubbling and is full, it should be free of air.
