Here's our new family member. Her name is Rose. (She is the small one in the pictures).

She's a 17 week old purebred Akita. We decided to get her as a companion for Logan (our 4 year old male Akita).

We picked her up from a local breeder today.

She got the name soon after we let her loose in the yard. She dove into one of our rosemary bushes and rolled around in it. She now stinks like rosemary. We figured that was as good a name as any.

She is a big puppy, and I love her color. Are they good tempered dogs? Laid back or high strung? Logan looks relatively calm, but I'm pretty sure Supramania woud be minus one Suprahero, if I was to try and harm DT..........well that is if DT didnt' kick my ass..........:biglaugh:

They've got a wolflike pack mentality and are very defensive of the pack and the den.

In other words, if you were to trespass on our land, or in our house, or threaten Theresa or me, you'd probably be eaten by an Akita. ;) (That is if one of us didn't shoot you first...)

They are VERY laid back dogs. Mellow, freindly, very lovable. As mentioned, they don't think much of strangers, other dogs, children, etc.

They are the perfect dog for the two of us.

Beautiful! I have an 9 week old Akita Shepherd chewing on my shoe about two feet away from me at the moment. Purebred German Shepherd father/purebred Akita mother. Wonderful dogs! Very mellow, protective, lovable, and smart. Her tail curls, but her ears have yet to stand up. She's a great pup, lots of fun, lots of work...The breeder we got her from runs a service animal nonprofit and is breeding these dogs for service/police work. After the sixth generation this mix will be recognized by the AKC as Phoenix Dogs. This is the first gen. The breeder is a neighbor and owed me a huge favor; as a result she is the only puppy of the litter that wasnt adopted by the Duluth Police Department. I couldn't be happier!

We named her Sierra after her favorite sleeping spot, a broken down case of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

She is just under 6 weeks in these photos...

She is absolutely gorgeous SC and DT. I am leery of Akitas....aside from Chows, they are the only dog I've had go after me....but they were both full grown and rather attached to their owners, I suppose. Maybe I just have yet to meet the right one, LOL. Either way, she's adorable!

If you say so. Goldendoodles aren't recognized yet (thank god.)

Cute puppy. Would love to see what she looks like as an adult. I probably wouldn't like the mix, as I like mellow dogs, and GSD's are certainly anything but mellow.

Curious what the situation was.

(Also: The list of dogs that have bit me are as follows:
Labrador Retrievers
Golden Retrievers
Miniature Schnauzers
Yorkshire Terrors
Jack Russel Terrors
Shih Tzus
Chow mixes [never a purebred chow, though I'm sure THAT day is coming])

Also:
I'll see if Mike will post a poll, but...

"Rose" sounds too much like "NO" phonetically, and we don't want her associating her name with something negative.

So maybe you kids can help us naming her.

Some other ideas were:
Ruby
Blaze
Autumn (but Mike said this sounded too much like a trailer park stripper name)

Given her coloring she'll almost certainly look very similar to this:

I cant stand high strung dogs either, and both parents are as mellow as it gets. Even as a puppy she is very laid back and not at all attention hungry. Given the parents were carefully selected shes really the best of both breeds. The breeder made a big deal about the AKC calling it a new breed which I thought was unique, but I couldnt care less.

Again, beautiful Akitas! I'd give a few name suggestions, but you know the personality and we dont so your really the only one that can pick one that fits.
