So my buddy has a 87 NA that I could pick up for under $1000 with a BHG motor thats in pretty good shape. It has no rust anywhere but the clear is flaking off bad in some places. Now the other day I found out that my uncle has a NA motor with an auto tranny on it that is BRAND NEW from toyota that he will sell to me for $1000. Should I buy the car and the motor and have a good DD?

depends upon the condition of the car...

I would pass on that, put the almost $2k toward an average/complete running turbo MK3 ($3k-$4k) and go from there. There are many for sale right now go check out the cars for sale.

I could probably sell it and make some money. The only thing that it needs other than obviously the motor is to have some paint work done which I can do myself.

there are two if's. first as mentioned before, if you can do all the work and sell it for a profit (including covering your time invested) then yes, or if you really, really want it.
