i have my motor apart and i have read many different theories on positive and negative effects on porting and polishing the head, intake and exhaust manifold. Do you think its really worth the time porting and polishing. Most likely i will leave the head alone but if its worth doing the intake/exhaust then ill jump right on it.

have any tips/suggetions?

I noticed on my head its off a 87 turbo and there is a nice lip on all the intake ports that you could probably gain 2-3cc of volume per runner!

take this into consideration. Stock Supra w/ 3" open downpipe.

Just had a port job and 1mm oversized exhaust valves. running 10lbs kept up/pulled on my 60-1 ct26 3" turbo back supra running 17lbs.

Its worth it.

My head will be torn all apart soon...this was a consideration for me too. This is a little off topic to his question, but relative.
For the same price as a 3 angle valve job, would you consider going with a 5 angle? I'm having my head milled and a MHG as well...

I went with a five angle, but I think the port work was what gave the gains.
The thing with a five angle is that there is less meat for the valve to seat against when closed, and that means less efficient heat transfer from the valve to the head, which can lead to detonation issues in extreem cases.
3 angle should be fine.

Alrighty. Thanks. The guy that is doing the work for me offered me 3 or 5 for the same price so I thought I would throw that out there.
I've also never done any internal upgrades with any other cars I've owned so would $25 for a 3 angle and $120 to mill the head sound like a good price? That's what I was quoted...

hehe, sorry, I had it backwards. I was typing quickly because I had to go do something...but anyways, 3 angle and milled for under $150...

I would raise a red flag on milling for $25. :icon_conf Every 'cheap' deck job I've had done came back looking like it was sanded with an 40 grit wheel.

This is coming from a very close friend of mine that has been in the business for 30+ years. Cheap work here is not an issue of concern...his work is excellent and I realize it is a little cheaper than what it would normally be...but hey, thanks for letting me know.:icon_razz How much would one normally pay to have work like this done? (Professionally, obviously.)
