I just want to see what everybody thought about the 3000gt Vr4? I've always loved those cars since way back. And i really want an AWD setup + turboed and it fits my needs. The color(green) sucks but be basically gettin of a buddy and taking over payments for like 169 a month for 2-3 yrs.

anyways, i know the 3000gts have their driveline problems but i was gonna take it to dealer to get the transfer case serviced for free.

But i dunno... opinions welcomed.

if you like it, go for it..

is it auto, 5 speed or a 6 speed model?

i think they switched to 6 speed around 93?

Stay away from the SL's though, tons of weight, non-turbo and FWD FTL...

VR-4s never came auto
1st gen = 5speed
2nd and 3rd gen = 6 speed

1st gen = 91, 92, 93
2nd gen = 94, 95, 96
3rd gen = 97, 98, 99

5spd. Not sure on the engine condition its pretty fair. and i love the comment on the gay part.

But its pretty sound. And i love those cars to death but it is a mitshubitshu(sp) and i know for sure they have problems. I read up on their 3000gt forums and they say once you have a problem it really BLOWS- so it worries me:icon_conf

And i know all about the SL's. lol

it all comes down to if you want a 3000Gt, buy a 3000GT..

but never ask the owners of another vehicle to give you opinions on another, it's always "it's gay, if i wanted one, i would have gotten one, but........."

ask them what they think about Supras, you'll see identical comments..

Great car... UNTILL YOU HAVE TO WORK ON IT or replace the turbos.

Stay far far away from one IMO.

So True! i've seen em and heard its a Pita.. another reason why am worried about em. But i like wrenching anyways and i guess its part of the joy of cars. if it was easy it wouldnt really be worth it.

Drivelines were a PITA on the early generation.

What year is it that you are dealing with/interested in?

They are, as everyone knows, fairly heavy cars (not much more than an MA70), had the power to back it, and are easily one of the most enjoyable cars I've ever owned. :)

However, I will poke at one part of this discussion that no one has brought up yet.

Although they are GREAT cars, look B/A, sound great and perform well...

Pulling those fat 6G72's or even changing simple parts under the hood is truly a royal pain in the ass.

That was the ONLY downside to owning that car was working on it:
Spark plugs (well, 3 of them, anyways), Alternator (what a bitch), fuel pump (son of a bitch :nono: ) and swapping a clutch (I REFUSE to ever try again).

FYI - SL's are G-R-E-A-T...........with a hefty size single hairdryer and going from a roll. ;)

My pair of Abraham Lincolns.

Razoe nailed it on the head. i really do wonder what some of the other car guys think of the mk3! Rod knock, BHG's from factory, terrible oil leaks from random places! Dude, 3000GT's will have it's quirks just like every other older car, and the xfer recall is a recall so it will have to be done at no charge to you.
also the 3 spark plugs are a pita to get to... i agree with boost lee entirely.
Buy it and enjoy it. Those are my 2 queen Elizabeth's

edit. 300 crank and nearly as much torque.

JD - So true. But with the Supra, although can be a PITA, it was still ultimately, fun to work on.

The 3000GT, at times, had me throwing stuff and quiting at odd times in the middle of the night only to continue working on it a few days later.

It's a love-hate-hate-hate-hate-love type of deal. :D

I do miss it...and I will own another some day...When I have more patience and more money.

VERY true, also. Each car is always going to have it's PROS/CONS.

6G72's are infamous for having random electric/wiring problems.

Once you get things up to date and taken care of, it makes it all worth it. :)

I think am juss drive it a little, if i a break something its mine and see where that takes me. Also check out all the problems, leaks, etc that i could have.

Do the typical compression test and go from there
