All the tailights work properly, but when I press the brakes the driver's side light assembly turns off completely. The passenger side and 3rd brakelight work fine. The bulbs are new. It's an 87 Supra.

The tail lights turning off is normal behavior when the brake lights come on.

First suspect is the yellow box, which is the tail light failure sensor module. These things do bad things when they get wet and corroded. Is the "tail light out" light lit on your dashboard?

After that, it's wiring, but most likely still in the trunk area... Assuming that you've checked that both #1157 lamps in the driver's side tail light assembly are good.

Actually its not. The tail light always stays on the brake light fillamint is brighter and over powers the tail light.

Thanks, it was the tail light failure box. I used jumper wires on the plug and they are working properly now.
