i'm sure you all are aware of the mkiv scams

i am invloved with one right now and would like some help
here's the latest reply

Hi

The VIN is JT2DD82A2V0040011.
As I've told you I want to complete the deal using a third party escrow service cause in every deal we must build trust, and I think that an escrow service will help us both, guaranteeing that you will receive the car and I will have a buyer for it.

I am a Square Trade member and I want to make the deal thru them cause I have a $20,000 insurance policy with them. They will act like a THIRD PARTY and we will be both 100% protected. The money will be HELD by them into their escrow account and I will give you a few days to test the car and to see that nothing is wrong with it.I made few deals in this way and it worked very well.

This is how it works :
1.The Seller will open the transaction --> 2.The buyer has to make the payment to Square Trade Financial Department and they will deposit the money into their escrow account --> 3.The Seller will receive the confirmation that the payment is done --> 4.The seller will ship the item to the buyer and he has 3 days to test check it -->5.The buyer will contact Square Trade to tell them if he is satisfied or not --> 6.Square Trade will release the money to the seller(in case the buyer is satisfied) and to the buyer(in case that he is not satisfied).

In case you have any question about how this service work, please ask me and I will be more than happy to give you all the details. So,please read this email twice and let me know.I hope you agree with me,because I think that it is the best way to protect both(seller and buyer).

Just email me back and let me know if I open the case with Square Trade right now(don't forget to send me your personal info)

i am tempted to call the FBI , but who the hell really wants to open that can of worms .
any ideas ? anyone know a cop or something ?

well take matters into your own hands, first buy a gun,
2nd make sure the police are on ur side
3rd make sure the gun is loaded.
4th get the scammer somewhere in public.
5th make the transaction only in public and with $$.
you have to get them in public.

the more you try to get the scammer to agree on a public meeting, themore excuses you will get why that isn't possible at this time. If you really want to play this out, give 100% fake bank information and don't give them your full name or anything else that leaves a clue to who you really are, or at least try not to give them much. The best part is the fake escrow site they will send you to, that's where you can put any bank info into and it won't get flagged

do you really think you can single handedly take down a serious scam artist?

the best thing you can do is what you've already done, however this same scam popped up earlier this month in this very same Off Topic Section..and then again on my local board Vasupras.com

if you want to go all vigilante justice have fun, but you wont do anything but waste your time and give some con artists (who btw tend to be smarter than those they are con'ing) something laugh about.

Ignore it.. move on, problem solved, if some pure schmuck is stupid enough to put there money up on something like this...then maybe they don't really deserve the money they just lost in the first place?

There is a reason this stuff is classified as "Victimless crimes"

if u want to try ur luck u can ask whats the adreess teh supras getting shiped from. and when (if) he gives u that u go a head and post it, and if some one wants to be nice to check it out. then write a email back to him saying u went to check it out and describe it to him tell him u are in town for a few days and would like to meet up. see what he says.

There is a whole club of people that spend all their free time screwing with these scammers - keep them occupied in email, send them silly assed requests, just to see how much they can get out of 'em. It's huge fun to play with 'em and keep them busy when you know they aren't going to get SQUAT from you but frustration. :D

Did you try to buy that 98TT quicksilver 6spd?

It is posted on kitcars.com and also cars.com.

I emailed both of the seperate emails that they gave and they both gave the same vin number but had different prices listed, differennt stories about how the car will be shipped and it is in the states but they are not, and different names.

When you look up square trade on google the first thing that pops up is "this is a scam."

Not a safe escrow.

heh... I had this deal when I sold my Suburban... some d00d said he was from Canada...... sent me a completely crapp check (it was all handwritten) said I needed to send X amount to a shipper...... then get back to him..... well.... he called me.... and I was like yeah, I sent the cash, it should be there anyday.... I wonder if he's still waiting....

If Western Union wasn't like $25, I woulda sent one for a $.01 and put GET A F*N JOB in the Memo..... but I didnt.... That woulda been awesome....

I'm still in awe of the powerbook guy. He sold a carboard box with a 3 ring binder and a bunch of torn off keyboard keys glued inside it to some scammer in Europe. Then he shipped it, insured, with a value of $5000 or something ridiculous, so the scammer had to pay duty before he could take delivery from the shipper.
