Hi everyone,
I'd just like to share my supra experience.
So I've always wanted a fast rwd car since I was 16 but never had the means to aquire one. Last summer I worked with a guy that kept going on and on about his 86.5 that he had and all his plans for it. One day he was late on bills and I bought it off him for $150 (can you believe that?) The only condition was that I didnt let the car deteriorate and got it on the road.
So over the last 8 months the car has sat in storage waiting for me to get some money to put into it. During that time I had people offering me as much as 1200 bucks for the car, but after all the hours of research I've put in, plans I've laid out, parts I've priced.. I just can't part with it. Between the community of followers the car has and the raw potential it has I've caught the MKIII fever. So now begins my journey...
Being a college student on a tight budget, the build up is gonna have to be one part at a time, but I'm hoping that as a graduation gift to myself, I'll have it runnning and looking good by the time I start looking for a job.
First things first, the 7m-ge with 160,000 on it is beat. Do to it being run with low oil pressure, it has serious valve train issues so I've decided to kill two birds... by putting in a fresher 7m-gte. Save a few minor details the car will be road ready at that point so after that I may work on asthetics. (The paint is about as bad as it can get and the front valance is trashed, but no rust
Eventually though I want to build up the motor a little at a time.
My goal is to have a lot of power but good range and fast spool for street driving.
I may be a little misguided but my plan now is: DP, full 3" exhaust, bigger intercooler, boost controller, upgraded fuel managment, .56 turbine, 550 injectors, and probably a full engine rebuild thrown in there somewhere (most likely immediatly depending on what kind of motor I can find.)
So thats that, I hope I can eventually become a positive contribtutor to this forum through what I learn doing this build.
If anybody has any advice or suggestions I would be much obliged. Especially on cutting costs.
Thanks,
Dewey
