I'm gonna start this thread off, but all are welcome to join. What I have here are some VERY unique OLD Concert photos. These were taken back before you could legally take a camera into a show. And some of these photos may have never been taken before or since. They were all shot with a Pentax K-1000 35mm camera with ISO400 film. The quality differences are due to different lenses. Most were taken with the standard lens, and others were with a zoom. All were from the front row being squished against a retaining wall. I borrowed the Zoom for the Van Halen Cheap Trick show. I just re-located my old pictures, and I layed them out and took digital shots of the actual pictures.
Van Halen Nothing special but the Zoom lens
NOW, Check this out............It's Kiss WITHOUT Make-Up.........And Journey WITH Make-UP. I saw Kiss with about 3000 people, back in the dead days with Vinnie Vincent and Bruce Kulick (who are they?) They were coming over posing for pics all night. Most of those did not come out so well. I'll never forget, Paul Stanley threw me a guitar pic, and it hit me right in the palm of my hand and fell just inside the retainer wall. I boosted:naughty: myself up onto the wall, and leaned over far enough to just barely get my hand on it when the crowd grabbed me by the legs and flipped me over the wall. The gaurds were nice enough to let me get it before escorting me to the back of the very small crowd. I got a couple of full stage shots from there.
Journey showed up in Mobile on Halloween night with painted faces and pumpkins on the stage. This was Journey Long before Randy Jackson. Great show that night opened by some unknown band by the name of Loverboy. I had no clue who that was before then, but I kinda predicted they would make it from then on.
Here's another rare one. It's Carlos Santana........and check that guitar he's playing!!!!!!
And finally the opening act Cheap Trick before Van Halen that night. I swear I saw them 5 times in about 2 1/2 to 3 years. They opened for everybody that came through town it seemed.
Feel free to comment. I had absolutely no training, and had just a basic 35mm camera for most shows I saw. I saw almost anybody you can name from 25 years ago, and took pictures at almost all of them. Most shows yielded 2-3 really good pictures, and 10-12 others worth keeping.
I would love to see any Pictures that WERE TAKEN BY YOU, and listen to any concert story. I still go to most good rock shows, but I don't carry a big camera anymore. Bellbottom jeans are no longer in style, so the sock trick doesn't work any more.
