OK so now I pretty much got it narrowed down but cant seem to figure it out

problem: car starts when it wants to (SERIOUSLY!!!)

symptoms:
1) turns over but doesnt catch
2) throws codes 42 and 43 when started
3) when it is gonna start the check engine light comes on
4) without turning the key I know it will not start if the check engine light doesnt come on
5)no spark when it doesnt start
6)it is NOT the cps wire, I already fixed that
7) I know my speedometor doesnt work so the code 42 doesnt apply
8)batterey is NOT dead, nor is the alternator

what could it be? I already tried replacing the starter relay, didnt do anything.(edit) it turns out it wasnt a starter relay, it was a fuel pump relay and fuel pump resistor

I really need help, I am tired of taking my moms 95 mercury cougar (pretty much grandma car) to school.

Here's the troubleshoot flow chart and schematic for a code 43:
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=FI&Page=62

The STA signal is mainly used to increase fuel injection volume during crank...since a code 43 is no STA signal until 800 rpm with the car not moving, you are not getting the enrichment necessary to cold start the motor. It's the same voltage as supplied to the starter motor.

What kind of tranny do you have? Are you using a neutral start switch or do you have an auto tranny harness w/ a manual tranny?

Code 43 can be several things...IGN switch, wiring, neutral start switch....I assume you have a fully charged battery.

Concerning what you said about the CEL...it should be on when the IGN key is on and during engine start...this is normal. If it's not, it could be the EFI relay is not closed and the ECU is not getting power as a result. Check the EFI fuse under the hood and make sure it's seated properly. This should generate a code 11...here's the flowchart:
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/manual.aspx?Section=FI&Page=53

There is a common link between the two above...check ECU terminal E1 to body ground.

I have a manual transmission on my car. It had a engine swap less than teo years ago, but I am not sure about WHAT transmission is in it. I was told one was shorter than the other. I think I have the long geard tranny because the car does well over 140mph.

Now concerning all that relay talk and what not I am not supra electrical inclined. I know a little more than the basics of the engine, but not a whole bunch. If I could have pictures of the area you mentioned or a description of that GENERAL area to look for that ground mentioned.

The reason I asked about the tranny is focused on the neutral start switch...it must be closed for the STA signal to get to the ECU. If you have an auto tranny wiring harness on a manual tranny (W58 or R154), there is no neutral start switch...an auto tranny harness has to be "jumped" to provide that signal. The connectors for an auto harness is on the drivers side, next to the bell housing.

The EFI fuse and the EFI relay are in the box behind the battery under the hood...the EFI fuse is marked...the relay is in the upper right corner.

The ground for the ECU (terminal E1) is on the lower intake manifold between the #5 & 6 runner.

The links I provided have the diagrams...the complete electrical diagram (TEWD) is here:
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/Library/TEWD/MK3/

If you don't know how to use a multi-meter or read an electrical diagram, you will have to learn or find some one that does.

Well, I was trying to figure out what was wrong with my car without the multimeter, and I unplugged my fuel pump resister(??) and It started up for about 10 seconds then died. Tried it a couple times and got the same results. when I plugged it back in it ran and started fine. So could it be I just need to go buy a new resistor? If so How much are they? It feels soo good to be able to drive my supra to school again!!!.
