You can take the cams out.

That's the easiest way...just get two new cam seals and make sure you torque the cam retainers in the TRSM sequence (yes...they have a sequence too ;) ).

Craftsman 3/8" drive 14mm 12 pt socket w/ a 1/2" to 3/8" drive adapter to fit your torque wrench ;)

the cams are out the sockets is too FAT it wont go all the way down......grrrrrr

im a newb on 7Ms, but on my CA18 ARP head studsi had to get a 1/2 in 12pt socket machined to 17.5mm OD for it to fit. the first one i did really crappy by hand with a bench grinder, it worked up until the 3rd tightening sequence on the 4th from last nut (the 4 outer ones) then it cracked... this one was done on a lathe by a master machinist... looks amost like it came that way

moral of the story is dont half ass it, youll end up doing it the right way later (pay a machinist to modify the socket for you) ... it was only $20, so i cant complain

this is what both me and buddy did it...a pure 1/2 drive socket is too big as you know.

Don't know about the Huskey...I do know about the Craftsman; that's what I used on my ARP studs.
You could alwys have one machined like Trannix did above, but the Craftsman worked fine for me.

Use the ARP spec sheet that came in the box for torque. From memory, it's 81 ft/lbs using moly lube, 105 ft/lbs using motor oil. The studs should be threaded into the head dry. Make sure you follow the TRSM sequence for torquing the studs in 10 ft/lb increments. Do not over torque!

Do not use a spray sealer if your MHG is new...it will destroy the factory coating.

I assume you got your front plate machine level with the block deck when you had it re-surfaced for the MHG RA spec. Make sure you use RTV along the front top of the front plate per the TRSM...not doing so will result in an oil leak.

With the front plate (aluminum casting w/ the water pump housing) installed on the block, the top should be level with or slightly below the block deck...check it!

You should be able to see the machine marks on the top edge of the plate. Slide a flat plastic ruler across the front of the block deck...if it catches on the front plate, it has not been machined! This will prevent your head from sealing on your MHG.

My machinist (who also does 7M's) didn't do this...I had to tell him. This is a fairly common mistake ;)

Ok...it'd called a "Timing Belt Case" in this picture...it bolts on the front of the block. The top edge is what I'm talking about....it it's higher than the block deck, it will not allow the head to apply the necessary pressure on the MHG to seal. You will not have to do anything to the head.

This is where the RTV goes on the top of the front plate...it's a top view:

You have read through the TRSM about doing this...correct? If you are "winging it", I can promise you that problems will crop up in the future ;)

Do it right...do it once.
