since i am always low on funds, i never really " fill up" my supra. plus, i dont drive it that often anyway..

so, i was just wondering, how much on average here, does it take you guys to fill up to the top, your supra's deep belly of a gas tank?

Simple math....From empty, approximately $50-60 or so depending on your gas prices.

My question is you say you are pretty broke, yet you have a WTB car thread? :dunno:

yea. i think i may close that thread, as i found a car that is actually in my state first of all, and actually meets all my requirements, for only 1200 bucks.

so.. now i need to figure out how to close the thread haha. and broke is a figurative term. i had money for car stuff, money for music stuff, and money for wtf ever. i have pretty much zero wtf ever money right now.. my definition of broke.

and for clarification, the tank holds 18.5 gallons of fuel, correct?

I dont see a reason to ever fill it up. I do around town driving so i just throw in like 35 or 40 bucks at a time.

Getting good gas mileage helps to ;)

I try not to let it fall below 1/4 and start sucking the 19 years worth of sludge on the bottom... is there any way to clean out that sludge?

I average $45-50 per fill.

Drop the tank, pull the sensors / fuel pump, blast out all the gunk, get it powder coated, reinstall. :)

I can't believe how cheap your Gas is over there - I got to £50 ($100), and that only filled the car up to just over the 3/4 mark :aigo:.

thats why I always run a tank right to empty - you avoid that buildup of sludge in the first place.

I filled up the MKIV this morning. She took almost 15 gallons and it was $50 even.

We buy the same gas, the primary difference is taxes. Capitalism works. :dunno:

Ive also taken non flammable mineral spirits and poured a bunch of steel bb's into the tank. Then had a friend help me roll the tank around several times, end over end, side over side.

The mineral spirits should come out black and orange due to the rust (if any).

Have fun - be patient.

60+ for a full fill here, and it will be going up. Come good driving season, Ill be putting in some c-10 with the normal 93. Car seems to love it.

what is c-10?

18.5 gallon tank X $3.53 USD= $65.35 for 87 octane. (most places in cali only have 87-91 octane)

However since I never let my tank go below 1/4 of a tank plus I use 91 octane:

13.87 X $3.75 USD= $52.01

:)

DUDE seriously......

Where do you think the pickup sucks from the Top of the tank?

Think about it for a few minutes......

This "Myth" dates back from the dark old days with uncoated tanks if you let the fuel level drop too much you'd get condensation build up which would rust the tank above the fuel level which in turn would flake and fall into the tank where the BOTTOM mounted pickup would suck it into the fuel pump causing problems.

If a modern tank is that corroded internally there's a good chance it's not far off leaking externally and needs to be replaced. ;)
