Has anyone tried to replace an oilpan gasket with the engine in the car, took a look and seems like a daunting task. As for a gasket i think i'm going to go without the typical cork gasket in favor of loctite gasket maker. Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

You don't use a gasket, It doesn't come with a gasket from the factory.. Either use Toyota FIPG (Form in place gasket) Or permatex Ultra black RTV. The only way you are going to do it in the car is dropping the subframe/steering rack. There is no way it will clear..

I had to do the same thing and ended up pulling the motor as I find it easier and have gotten it down to about an hour and a half to pull it.

Use fipg from toyota. ITs better than the auto store stuff. We dont use cork gaskets on oil pans.

You either have to pull the motor or drop the subframe. Both are basically an equal amount of work. Engine seems easier for me tho.

Thanks for the replies. I really don't want to pull the motor or drop the subframe I'm gonna try to lift the motor a couple inches and see if that will give me the room I need if that doesn't work I'll pull the motor. I'll keep you posted on the results.

You have the oil pump to clear. It's quite tight.

Make sure you degrease both the block and pan sealing surfaces so that the sealer will bond.
An oily finger print here and a grimy palm print there will be your next leak.

I would get the car on jack stands or on a lift. Use an engine support bar to remove subframe. I spent hours trying to get the pan out. I even loosened the motor mounts lifted the motor up as far as i could with a hoist. no luck.

I lifted the motor up and lowered the trans down in the car as far up as it would go, the trans was hitting the tunnel and I could not get the pan out.. There is no way to do it in the car with the subframe and engine in place.

If you dont have a condenser you can pull the front bumper and cover and lift the motor up and go that way. I did that. Was a little bit of a pain but worked fine.
