Who here has installed these and where is the best place to put them. I know i read the directions but I want the best most accurate place people have installed these. For the oil temp it says to drill/weld a nut onto your oil pan?, and for the EGT drill/weld a nut 2-3in. away from Turbo. Any suggestions would be great. Also will my fuel pressure gauge work with the aeromotive f/p/r I'm getting? Just take off the gauge that comes with it and getting a fitting to work with my gauge? Thanks Tejon

I drilled out an oil pan drain plug and used that for awhile for oil. And for the EGT, after using both a downpipe mount (post turbo) and the manifold mount (pre-turbo), I highly recommend using the pre turbo. It doesn't take much to drill and tap the hole and it seems to be much more consistent. Just my penny...

I have a hole drilled in my JBLMK3 turbo elbow. Would that also be sufficient to have a good EGT reading?

A lot more experienced people can answer that question better than me. It mostly boils down to variables such as how much heat is soaked up by the turbine housing/downpipe, etc. versus checking it right as it exits the chamber. Again, I hope someone more experienced than me will jump in here.

Personally I would put it in the collector, so you're getting more then just a single cylinder's EGT.

As for oil temp, easiest and reversable way it to get a GReddy oil block adapter like I did.

reasoning is this;

number 6 is farthest away from the radiator so it gets hotter coolant, HOWEVER we are measuring EGTs here, which are a product of combustion so.....

number 1 theoretically would be the leanest, as it is last in line to get fuel.

the rail is under pressure though so, would this make a difference? who knows...other than someone who has placed a probe in each runner and monitered each cylinders EGT readings independantly.

Well, I wouldn't say they agree with me, since I pretty much got the idea from all of them...:) But I did use a sender tapped into an oil pan drain bolt for awhile and it was fairly effective, but I'm sure the GReddy thingee would be better.

I bought the autometer adapter nut(drill hole weld on) for the oil pan. I'm just curious were to put it. Aren't there plates in our oil pan to keep the oil from moving around too much.(read this in TOYOTA shop manual) I want to know the best place to keep it out of the way and work. Also about the EGT anybody agree with one answer. I know if anyone is realy serious about building their cars they at least have a EGT gauge. Directions say 1-2in. away from turbo, That would be in the elbow right?? Thanks

no no, not in the elbow. period. that's useless... you want it in the exhaust manifold runner for the leanest cylinder, which as lagged said, correctly, is #1. it's totally pointless to have it in the turbo elbow. EGT is a prevention thing for detonation, and post turbo in the elbow has no reflection if you are in the danger zone. put it in the exhaust mani.

I need a hard fact about the EGT because my turbo guy is waiting to build me my custom downpipe and also am getting my manifold port/polished and ceramic coated. I was going to have him weld me two bungs in the downpipe for wideband and egt. You tune with wideband 02 which is after turbo not on manifold???? Hurry. Thanks
