Don't crank for too long at once, no more than 20 secs at a time or so

Give it a 30 second rest or so to let the starter cool down, then try again

Repeat until you see some oil pressure on the gauge!

Theres no way to do that on a 7M without taking apart the front of the engine

Well, you could just turn the crank by hand? But have fun with that vs. just turning a key :icon_bigg

add new oil, pull EFI/Eng Main Fuse and crank for some time.

Make sure you don't pull the headlight fuse on accident.....:1zhelp:

I usually just unplug the injector resistor pack.

sure it does if its a runing eng but its ben sitting for wile empty so it could take a wile. For example just finished building a 350 and i took like 10-15min with a drll spining the oil shaft till we had all the oil pasages filled.

LOL not that I'm saying to do it but I used to use my starter to get the car back in the shed when it was a manual (after breaking it bad enough that it wouldn't run)

My drive is uphill!

IJ, what does removing the plugs gain you?

Please pardon my noobishness.

For one it won't start the engine ;)

Two its not as hard on the starter since there is no pressure in the cylinder so it shouldn't heat up as much since it will be running so long.

I figured I'd bump up this thread instead of starting a new one....

I just finished my GE to GTE swap, and I'm trying to prime the oiling system before starting the engine. I cranking the engine 15 seconds at a time, then give it about a minute to cool the starter & wire down. So far, I've cranked the engine at least 20 times (20 - 15 second bursts); and the oil pressure gauge hasn't budged off 0 PSI.

My question is, how long do you usually need to crank the engine before you see the oil pressure gauge start to move?
