Oil psi questions

Just curious about my 86.5`s oil psi. After installing a aftermarket gauge because stock one crap`d out, when the car warms up, the op is 6 to 10psi at idle. Then at 2500rpm its 50 to 60psi. Is my motor ok? I heard from ex owner thats all right for a supee. Whats your n/a run? Thanx, Shelby

Most mechanics who are familiar with (for example) GM motors will tell you she's gonna blow when you've got 5 psi of oil pressure at idle.

Believe it or not 4.3 psi (0.3 kg/cm2) or higher is the factory spec for this motor at idle.

It's normal.

you know, i always wonder why toyota didnt put a mark on the OP guage for the lowest acceptable oil pressure reading...

yeah i worried about this also when i first got my MKIII up and running, thats one of the things that brought me here, i browsed quite a bit before i joined...found out thats normal, so i don't worry about it anymore, just keep an eye on my oil level

Since the topic is about oil pumps are there any differences between the NA and turbo pumps. I want to replace the pump on my JDM motor while its on the stand for a little extra insurance. For some reason I feel like I read somewhere on here that the turbo pump supplies more pressure while crusing than the NA one. But when my car was running id get like 8psi at idle and only 30 cruising, it would never reach 40 or 60psi no matter what i did. Of course I ended up with rod knock even with the right amt of oil.

I had to order a new pump for my NA-T they are suppose to be the same for turbo and N/A personally im not sure because I know the turbo has extra oil squirters and a turbo to run but they claim they are the same. You can shim it like I did to get more pressure but be carefull not to overshim it or your screwed, u gotta take everything back apart. I ended up doin mine about 4.8 mm (5 washers) I have around 65-70 cold and 45+55 warm crusin speed. However my idle pressue still sucks 10 PSI or less but I guess thats how they roll. I dunno maybe that has somethin to do with rod knock, it happens to much there must be a connection somewhere with our oil system

hmmm i just so happen to have a stock ge oil pan and oil pump and a stock gte oil pan and oil pump and aside from the gear there is no difference.

Ah, well i didnt think there was any difference in the GE and GTE oil pans, but I did think the two oil pumps differed. So I guess for the record we can say, the GTE oil pump is a nice upgrade to perform when the NA motor is out the car.

there are some decrepencies, somebelieve that the newer n/a pumps are actually turbo pumps. If anyone would like to compare part numbers i still have my recipt from toyota from last year when i bought my new pump.

That would be very interesting, I havent bought my GTE pump yet, but did you buy a GE pump last year or was a GTE pump? We could probably just go to jays toyota or whoever the toyota dealership is on this site and find the part #'s as well
