ok... so, i posted before about the jdm oil pressure sending unit on my car, i changed it out for the usdm one, but now my oil press. gauge reads + 120 psi at ALL times, even w/ the battery unplugged and the car off... :1zhelp:

updating this thread.... i pulled the gauge cluster cover off and wiggled the oil press. gauge needle, and tried turning on the car... the needle won't move... at all, at any position...? is there any way to test for a signal using a circuit tester?

the oil pressure gauge is just a thermometer...
voltage comes straight from the gauge fuse, which is powered up from the ignition switch. The sender is a variable ground, so more pressure = less resistance. A shorted sender would allow heat to accumulate in the gauge, permanently deforming the spring...

so, assuming it's shorted, is there any way to prevent this from happening again?

edit: and are you saying the oil pressure sending unit is a ground? (the sensor)... if so i know why it shorted

Negative - not stupid. Just uninformed, and you learned something. That's smart!
