Oil pressure sensor question

My gauge is broken so I can not get an oil pressure signal. I tried installing an aftermarket oil pressure gauge but that gauge might be broken or the sensor could be bad.

My question is if I buy an auto meter oil pressure gauge, can that pressure sender be installed where the stock sensor is? Or is the thread size different?

I search but only saw post on how to test them and all this and that.

Without going into detail yes, they're slightly different but you can get a adapter. Keep in mind the stock sender and gage work on an unusual principle and are not compatible with aftermarket gages or senders. The stock sender also sends a signal to your car's ECU but you can live without it.

You can buy a new Toyota sender and see if it works then. Thing is the factor water temp and oil pressure gauges are not accurate for anything. You need an adapter because the threads in your block are BSPT and the autometer sender is NPT. I plan on getting an adapter that is also a T so I can use an aftermarket guage but keep the stock one functioning.

yups. the stock oil press sensor is 1/8" BSP....most aftermarket sending units are 1/8" NPT.

EDIT: a day late and a buck short...

autometer sells a little adapter for aftermarket oil pressure gauges, or if you get the greddy oil pressure gauge kit it works as-is - no adapter needed.

Also check to see if the wire fell off your stock sender first, you may not need to do any of this. Not sure how a stock oil pres gauge just breaks? :)
