Oil Pressure Sender

My oil pressure gauge isnt working. It rises all the way up at start up then drops to zero. Its wired to the sender but im not sure what the problem is.... If anybody has an idea I appreciate it. Oh and for any smart asses, yes I do have oil and am getting pressure haha:naughty: ... I just need to get this gauge workin. Thanks!!!

Yeah its the stock gauge Im refering to. And no Im not throwing any codes. It seems like Im getting power to it but no signal....Hmm..

Have you checked to make sure it's connected firmly to the wire harness? If so, start looking closely at the wires to see if it's toasted in some spots. Either that or for some strange reason it may be time for a new sending unit...

sounds like a ground or the sending unit is bad...I'm leaning toward the sending unit. The oil gauge grounds on the flexible circuit board at the back of the combination meter (the dash)...if it was a ground, it would likely affect more than one gauge.

I had the exact same problem after my 1j swap. I replaced the gauge, I replaced the sender, and neither fixed it. In the end I just rewired it myself and it worked fine. I think one of the guys on here told me the gauge will read max psi if you pull off the ground.

Also sometimes the needle mechanism will get out of the slot it's supposed to sit in. Check and make sure its still in its slot. Mine fell out when the gauge went wacky.

Thanks guys, I believe the wire for the sender is yellow if I recall..Im not sure on that one, but I soldered it up because my car had a new motor swapped in it and the wire for the sender coming off the harness was cut? Don't ask me why, the person who did the swap seemed like they half assed a lot. I have fixed A LOT since. But to stay on track I'll check the ground and wiring tomorrow. Also like I said the gauge shoots up to the top at initial start up then slowly lowers..

Was this a JDM motor and did you happen to keep the sending unit that came with it on the motor?

No its a USDM motor. I was told its a JDM motor before I bought the car but the moment I looked under the hood I saw a USDM TB, and thought, your a liar..lol..

Ok...just checking. The oil pressure sending unit on a JDM motor will not work on a USDM car...it can actually fry the gauge as well

Yea, the easy fix is to solder on your own wire and then run it straight to the gauge cluster.
