What is the common oil pressure PSI for a 89 Supra 7MGTE?

i just started to drive mine a month ago, and on the highway at 55-60, the pressure was around 20 PSI. it seemed low, but it was constant. recently, it has been dropping. now on the highway at the same speed, its reading if 5 PSI... i think there is something wrong. i am using mobil1 synthetic oil for it. maybe its thinning out?

Let me know what you think might be going on

Check if the connector if is properly connected to the oil pressure sensor.

Sorry for my grammar :aigo:

You better hope its not, cause thats low. It can be at 5psi at idle, but at freeway cruise the low end is 25 IIRC. Are you leaking/burning oil? Sounds like maybe your burning pretty good. How long was it down?

When cruising easy 75mph/3k rpms, I see about 45-50psi. I think the high end of ok is about 70psi.

Check your oil level IMMEDIATELY!!! With a 7m you will want the level of the oil to always be off the scale of the dipstick on the wire portion at all times, this is the best way to prevent rod knock.

i do check my dipstick, and it reads full. i noticed i did leak some oil from the bottom of car, where these two tubes split into 4 tubes. it looks like a sort of meshing material. i put new clamps on them, but don't know if it will stop the leaking because hose looks old and worn.

and about the motor knock..i think i might be starting to get one, only when the motor reaches about 2800 RPM and more it will sounds something REAL similar to it...

i am thinking about just running thicker oil in it first, but what do you guys recommend doing first??!!

Here's the TSRM spec's and possible cause of oil pressure loss:

Your pressure at highway speed is too low...the Mobil 1 is not going to cause that and a heavier weight oil is not going to fix it. I would check the cooler relief valve on the filter head...it should only function above ~40 psi. Just disconnect the line to the cooler, drop to a container, and start the car. If you get oil flow to the cooler at idle, the valve is stuck open.

I hope this is it...the other causes will require you to drop the oil pan. It could be the sender/gauge too.

I would not drive the car with this...that is unless you would like to fix a case of rod knock.
