I have a JDM motor and replaced the oil pressure sensor with the USDM sender unit. I hooked it up but i'm reading no oil pressure? Any thoughts?

These are your choices
1. no oil pressure
2. the sending unit doesnt work
3. wiring
4. the gauge doesnt work.

Use a mechanical tester and make sure you have oil pressure. If you run the car all the time, then that isnt it. Obviously.
If you are reading zero or very low, gauge may not work. Unplug the sensor when running, ground it, and ground it with a test light. If the gauge responds to the different inputs, get a new sending unit.

thats what i was thinking. Does the wiring go directly to the gauge? I want to see if i can trace it there. I bought the sender unit brand new so i doubt thats the problem. Where can i pick up a test light, that sounds pretty useful.

Test lights can be found at any parts store, sears, wallyworld, hardware store. Just get a sturdy one. I've had mine for 20 years, as a professional car fixing guy:biglaugh:
And have NEVER had to replace the bulb !! (and I hope after saying that, it doesn't blow out tomorrow):icon_evil

How can you unplug it with the car running? I had to move a bunch of the intake stuff out of the way just to reach the sender today. I am going to buy a test light and try this tomorow.

is the sensor on the side of the block just above and forward of the oil filter? if so, i need a new one because my car keeps reading no pressure, then the light goes off. also, it is leaking oil from this spot. where can i buy one on line or do i have to get it from the dealer??
