Oil Pressure Gauge Reading Low

I've tried looking around to find the answer before posting this question, but what are some common problems that make oil pressure read low? I don't know if this is related, but my car also overheats like nuts..I have a 7mgte 1988 supra. any thoughts?

Worn rod bearings, worn main bearings, low oil level, worn oil pump, weak oil pump bypass spring, weak oil squirter bolt springs,
and as mentioned above, BHG. Have you checked the integrity of your oil- IE; is it just oil or now an oil-coolant mix?

the 7mgte has a high volume low pressure oil pump! so when looking at the gauge it might look scary but its cool! now when you first start it up in the morning or whatever will show a higher reading than normal, but as it warms up the pressure will drop off. now the overheating is another issue you need to deal with before you really screw up the motor! do you have any water leaks? before you jump to any conclution get the cooling system pressure tested to see if there is any leaks, then if there is no leaks after doing the pressure test.....well you might have to pull the head and change the head gasket.

The pump controlls volume, not pressure. If it was pumping less total oil, meaning lower volume through the engine, the pressure would be lower. So how does it push a lot more oil and have low pressure? The more oil is trying to displace itself into a confined space, the higher the pressure. But with oil squirters and a pressure based oil cooler used on the engine, the oil will have a place to go.

Should I check my oil through the dipstick haha? Sorry i'm a noob. But I dont think I have a BHG cuz i got those hks metal headgaskets and ARP studs + bolts on there..that should prevent any BHG right? I don't boost that much and I dont think I have any loss in power so yea..Yea I think im losing coolant like nuts from the radiator, which I should get checked out quickly.

I blew an HKS gasket....or rather my head cracked. It can still happen. Start by trying to find any coolant dripping from the engine/bay area. Does your top rad hose get pressurized when your car gets nice and warm? If you can't find any drips and your top rad hose is not getting pressurized when the car is hot, I'd start looking for symptoms of head gasket (or head) failure. Ugly brown milky goop stuck under your oil cap and all through the PVC, milkshake on the dipstick, white smoke out the tailpipe, oil swirlies in your coolant either in the rad or overflow tank, bubbles in the overflow, coolant first from a settled oil pan when you crack the drain plug, etc.

Yeah so i found coolant leaking out from the top of the radiator and smoke out of the cap...coolant drips out of the car when stopped, and then when i park, coolant empties out of the radiator and goes to the resvoir..what is that crazyness? AHHHHH am i in bhg denial?

Yeah, I've said it before- I think an aftermarket large core radiator is a great peace-of-mind upgrade.
Any leaks in your cooling system will allow the coolant to boil over due to lack of system pressure.
Also check the condition of the two 90 degree hoses- one on the front of the head, one on the back,
and check the throttle body hoses, as well as the hose into the heater valve, on the firewall.
They ALL eventually go bad.

Yea Hopefully I just need a radiator and radiator cap..ive just recently swapped out all the hoses...so they should be fine. except for the the resovoir cap one..AH this is so stressfullllllllll
