iv used a 2mm hg , also read on hear that there is a brass rivet holding the hg together , could this be causing the leak ?
people has said to use sealer at the front of the hg

Normally I'd use Permatex #4 where the MHG meets the front Cover but this time I just sprayed the MHG with Permatex Brake Quiet and no leaks!

It's the front Exhaust corner you can see the missing rivet in the pic!

i see where the rivit was , my leak is from the other side , next to the large oil way , so using sealer is ok , just seems a bit of a bodge to me !!

If you had your block machined, make sure you had the front plate machined too. Your block will be lower than the front plate, and the head will be resting on the front plate, not completely sealing with the block at the front. My friends supra was like that, until he milled the front plate and solved the oil leaking issue. Other than that, could be the rivets in the hg.

What brand of MHG did you use?
I think just the Cometic had this problem.

If you look in the TSRM, you are supposed to put some gasket sealer in the front by where the inner timming case meets the block. Doesn't sound like you did that.

I had the problem with the inner timing case extending up from the block. It looked exactly like a bhg when I started it up, tons of white smoke.

i'm in the same boat. new machined 5M with a MHG and it's leaking oil from the front. and they used orange RTV in the corners... (shop built my motor..ug wish I did). Right now I'm hoping it was the fact that my upper rear Tbelt cover wasn't shaved and when they installed it the bottom hung up on the HG edge. b/c the bottom rear cover looks like it was shaved and level with the block. surface is SHINY. How much should a typical machine shop charge to shave a cover down like that?

I know that the rivet problem affects at least Cometic and HKS gaskets. I test fitted my HKS gasket, and it's a good thing I did, because one of the rivets was causing problems. I drilled that rivet out and haven't had a problem.

FRIG! I got a HKS MGH!!!! I doubt the machine ship drilled the rivet(s) out! SO if I shave the upper rear Tbelt cover and it still leaks.... Heads gotta come off.

In the Cometic PDF I have it says to remove the rivet with a pair of sidecutters!

It also says to retorque the ARP studs if the hardware is new :)!

It was nice to have it confirmed I do things the "right way"!

I almost had the same problem, I was lucky I caught the problem before I put the head on, I sent the block out to get milled and forgot to give them the front cover. I had to measure the difference and have it machined. Do you guys recommend putting sealer on the gasket by the front case? And if so, do you put it on both the head and block side?

UPDATE: just got my upper rear timing cover on after shaving it down and ran the car today for a while. NO OIL LEAKS!!!!! :icon_bigg So it was the fact the shop didn't shave it and installed it goofy it leaked. thank god somin simple. Now i'm onto other issues. my Cy #6 isn't working... I got spark, but the plug isn't turning brown/blk. I'm thinking the fuel injector is clogged up or somin.
