Im slowly losing my oil... I located the leak and it is comming from the thick hose behind the alternater. The one comming from the top of the crank case to the block. The bottom is "gunked- up" with oil... The hose looks fine.
Is there a seal or somthing there i need to replace or what?

No seal that I'm aware of. These hoses don't last forever though. If you can get it off, you'll likely find it's cracked. Should be an easy part to get through Toyota. If not, I've had success just using standard hoses from any old autparts store. There's not a lot of heat to deal with on that one so it just needs to be oil proof.

I'm using a very ugly orange multi use fuel/water hose. $13 would have been more than worth it, had I bothered to check Toyota!

Thats the oil return hose from the valve covers, if I'm not mistaken. The bottom part is probably cracked to hell.

Get a worm clamp for the hose after draining the oil. clean the messded up port with catrol super clean and pipe cleaners some occasional wd 40. the insert hose into the afore stated worm clamp. not only will it keep it on but it more than likely will be a hex head for easy everything after. Invest in any metric tool you can afford to. Enjoy building the car to your driving style, don't get into any hurry's. You should do fine. ASk all of us here dude. peace.

I went through that. no leak but the hose is crap after being through 20 some years of heat.

if the rubber is still a bit soft you might be able to get by with just cutting it shorter to eliminate the crack if you dont want to purchase a new hose.

but considering the modest price of a nice new one i would just go buy one, and maybe some new clamps as well. the new one is different, its made with black rubber and has a thin coat of grey over it...preshaped to fit perfect as well.

i jsut bought anew one because mine was stiff and plastic like...and cracked. yours probably is too.

the top connection is actually the valve cover, and the bottom is a crankcase vent, no seals that i'm aware of. remove your alternator and take a look. squeezing the hose and looking without some parts removal wont get you good results...without the alternator you should be able to see the whole hose and find the leak if in fact it is coming from the hose.

good luck.
