well Im slowly begining to learn about my car and take it apart. Well my first order of businees was to take the K&N filter out clean it and re oil it. So that being done right now a bit of a struggle to get that damn air filter out but its soaking right now in K&N cleaner as we speak. Anyways I notced a bit of oil was in right behind the honeycomb and a bit in the hose that connects to the turbo. Also I took off the hose that runs from the 3000 pipe to your intercooler and I notice a bit of oil in it too. IS there sopuses to be oil in it or is something wrong????? if there isn't sopuses to be oil in it should i just clean it out??? could the oil in the intake just be from the oil in the filter that built up over time???

sorry for all the annoying questions but there will be more to come after this the next thing is to find out why my fog lights don't work and that thread should be full of tons of questions.

More than likely PCV. Mine does the same.

When checking the fog lights, the very first thing to check is the fuse. The second thing to check is the bulbs... I've had problems keeping bulbs alive in there.

Yes its the PCV, I was told on supraforums that a little bit of oil is normal and alot is bad. There is just a tiny bit of oil in it it nothing too major.

Should I just clean out the pipe then put it back together???

The mk3 supra does not have a positive crankcase ventalation valve, oil in the hard pipes and turbo inlet is caused from positive crankcase pressure. Since that pressure has no where to go it is vented into the throttle body and turbo inlet tube. Every time you boost the car pressure is pushed past the piston rings giving you blowby, excessive blowby is bad, as that pressure escapes through the ports in your valve covers it has those two places to go and you have the end result of oil in your turbo inlet and turbo piping. Excessive amounts of oil can be caused by a few things, one being bad turbo seals or bad compression. Of course if you pull your piping to check for the first time and they have never been cleaned in the 15 some odd years that the car has been driving your going to find a bit of oil.

The catch can just collects oil so that it is not put into the intake to be burned. If you vent your catch can to the atmosphere you will be able to see early signs of excessive blow by. Minimal smoke should be expected depending on how healty your motor is but excessive amounts of somke is a good sign of bad compression.

seee i think that probaly all he guy who had the car probaly never cleaned it in 15 years or so. And there was a very very small amount of oil, I don't think it is necsserary to invest into a catch can i guess.

I just installed my greddy catch can yesterday. I personally like it. The clear hoses that came with it will pretty much let me know the second I get either bad compression or a turbo problem. (Aka. They will fill with oil and I will cry.) You can, of course, always check the other smaller pipe that is used as an indicator.

PCV can isn't required, but if you want the ic pipes to stay clean you should get them. You don't even need to buy one, if you make a metal can yourself and connect the lines it wil work just as well.

I come from a land down under
On a fresh motor on the dyno I had used the NA T off the cam covers into 1/2" hose then into my catch can and back into the Turbo inlet.

As soon as the motor was working hard the PCV couldn't flow enough and was blowing the DipStick out and pukking oil onto the wastegate/exhaust.

Luckily it was just a shitload of smoke and no fire but had the potential to be tragic.

I changed out the hoses and fittings to 5/8" end of problem so I think a properly sized and working PCV system is vital on a 7M.

well i just assembled it all back together now anyways along with the new freshly cleaned and re oiled k&n filter. After re oiling and cleaning the filter(wich was had like dirt caked on it)I noticed a slight decreases in the turbo lag... either that or it just my imagination

Yeah, I'm sure it's similar to the effect one gets when the put 94 octane into their corolla instead of 91. But still, a clean car lasts longer... and it still feels faster even if it's purely psychosomatic.

true to that i cleaned up my hole intake, pcv pipes and re tightened alot of clamps(alot of them were amazinlgly loose inculding the rad hose). Just doing thoese basic things made it feel faster too me :biggrinbo
