i pulled my turbo off yesterday to make way for my new one. as i was pulling it off i found oil in the exhaust housing. the turbo was blown so i was thinking maybe i just blew the seals out of the turbo. what do you think? heres a pic. sorry its so big, it wouldnt let me size it.

looks like a blown rear exhaust seal on that one! check the runners on the mani to make sure its not coming from up stream but i think this one is a pretty easy case of a blown turbo. (4 turbos in a year for me! all rear seal shitty builds.....)

yup! sp warrantied them all out. this time i took it to majastic turbo for the build. oil contamination was what sp said for all of them. majastic took a look at mine and said that it was caused by improper balancing leading to oil starvation and contamination. its balances their parts individually and then sp assembles them w/o rebalance apperently. its gonna get balanced this time with the full assembly and a bigger bushing and shaft. ill report back how it does.

Awesome, +1 sir for such great information. I'm going to try and see if i can trade in for a SP61GTBB for the right price.. I'm kinda lost tho, are you not going through SP for this rebuild? Still on warranty? If not, how much $$ is gonna set you back? How long have you had it?

correct. i am going to an outside vendor as i wanted to see exactly why the exhaust seals kept failing. tim was actually going to send me an sp61gtdbb to do some dyno work with to do show the differences between the regular and the dbb version. after the rebuild machine work and everything it is going to be around $600 for the rebuild with a 6 month/unlimited warr on the build. so far the 3 month mark seems to be the one to beat so if we go longer all should be good. it always seems to be the exhaust seal for some reason. i still think the sp61gt and dbb version are great turbos and will continue to run them. for the price its really hard to beat for the bolt on side of things (the boss series is about the same price w/o the oil lines unless you go with the top of the line one like malloy has and it will be around 2500) hth!

Awesome, so I guess I should be in touch with Majastic considering its a month past my SP warranty expired. I just wanted this turbo to last, thats the whole reason I didn't do a Ct-26 upgrade. Then this happened.
