Oil In Air Filter

Ok. :1zhelp: After searching this for a while on the Forum and not turning any promising results I'll just start a new thread and hopefully someone will be able to give me some guidance.

I recently picked up my first Sup (89 GTE). I bought it from a buddy who bought it from a buddy who 'blew' the motor. While i was looking for a motor on here as a replacement many people urged me to find out what my buddies definition of 'blown' was. Well apparantly when they started to take the motor apart there was Oil in the Air filter and housing. Now can anyone give me any idea of what this could be, and/or if its able and/or worth it to be fixed. My original attitude was to just yank it and replace it w/another one. If there are any other descriptions that you need to help me let me know and I will be happy to look at the car can relay the results. I work in the evenings when most people are on so I will respond as soon as I can. Thanks in advance.

Oil in the air filter usually comes from excessive PCV blowby - and that is usually from dead rings or destroyed pistons. If it's still assembled and running, pull off the oil cap and fire it up - if there is lots of air blowing out the oil fill hole, this is the culprit.

Ok. Thanks. The top end was taken off before i bought it. I tried to add pix but the format is to large so i'll have to take some more and adjust my camera. I dont think there was any rod knock, so can i just replace the Pistons and HG?

In theory, sure - but if you're going to have it torn apart that far, you might as well replace the bearings and have the oil pump clearances checked, it's a few extra dollars that's worth a thousand when the engine is assembled.

So it would be worth it to do that work than to actually replace the motor in its entirety (money wise)?
