I pulled my plugs today to check em ( about 1k miles on them), and i found lots of oil on the electrode side of the plug, Is this in issue with my HG at the #6 piston, valve covers( although i think there would have been oil above the plug..., ??

can the oil be cuased by the piston rings too? and would a compression test give me insight on the problem, whether it be the HG or the rings? And how do i tell if the valve seals are ok or not?

I had this happen it it was valve cover gaskets.

Crap collected in the galley and when I pulled the plugs it ran down and appeared to be on the bottom of the plug but actually came from above.

For me, yes - but your results may vary :)

There is a write up on redoing your stock valve cover bolts that would be beneficial to do. it isn't a gasket issue really, the stock bolts don't hold real. Go to your valve covers right now and see how much you can tighten them, I'd bet you a few are looser than you'd want.

Well if they are very loose then there is hope.

When (if) you decide to redo with a new gasket and new bolts be sure to clean the galley out to ensure there is no oil sitting in there when you begin. It shouldn't cost too much for that.

If after all that you still have issues, onto more expensive areas of possibility :)

and afterwards should i run the same plugs for a while to burn up to remaining oil inside the cylinder, then change my plugs? assumng that was the problem, cheapest thing first...

^^^^yes, that is possible too... when you say oil, is it like oily build up, or like clean motor oil?? maybe replace the plug and then run the car for a little bit, then take the plug wires out and look down into the journals with a flashlight and see if any oil has collected there...

you confirmed you have loose valve covers, period. I would replace the gaskets, get the upgraded bolts and certainly clean the galley - then new plugs and go for it.

The oil dropped in the cylider will not be an issue assuming it wasn't a ton :)
