Hey all....

I had a surprise tonight... I seem to have sprung a mighty leak on the passenger side of the engine. I am hoping its not the front seal but its all over the power steering pump, resivoir (sp) and fender.

Its not on the battery or anything on the drivers side... I also hear an odd sound.

It was dark and I couldnt see but lord Im mad. I JUST got it back from Priority Toyota for the CPS and water hoses... Is there an oil line under there that would spray like that?
oh and yes I parked it quick and it never dropped below 20 pounds o pressure.

Any ideas?

Oh ya...going to the oil cooler. There's also your tranny fluid lines going to the radiator.

passenger side of the block..run around the areas of your radiator hose.

Well most of the oil is on the passenger side even underneath. It looks and feels like oil. Its black though. Im going to do a dump and see what the oil looks like in the engine.

Wouldnt my timing belt be coated if the front main was leaking?

Im thinking its a line now too as there is a LOT of oil on the passenger side... Its got to be spraying as the brakes and rim is soaked too.

Dammit

My timing belt was fine with a massive leak from the front main.

Just look at the oil cooler hoses, they go from the driver side(were the oil cooler is located) around to the passenger side of you oil pan. The lines look braided, not like a rubber hose so there pretty easy to spot.

oil cooler, oil psi sender unit, Cps, turbo feed/return, dip stick, oil filter, valve covers, HG (yea right), or PS system.

If it were front main, I doubt it would only be on the passenger side

If it were cam seals your timing belt would be drenched

:werd: Let's hope it's just something stupid like the dip stick, and not the turbo oil lines or something...

Was the noise it was making sounding like a high pitch whine? Did it do it all the time, or was it more pronounced at coasting speeds like when you tried turning?

I figured out what the odd noise was... Its oil on the passenger rotor. makes it a cool stopping sound.

Tonight I will peep at the lines. What are the odds Advance carries what I need? I have had leaky main seals before... This is spectacular. Its shot all over everything on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Turbo oil lines are braided and new. I wouldnt think that would have worn out in 6 months of sparse driving. I really didnt see any definite sources when I looked but it was dark when I got home.

Since my fall back ride took a dump this morning I have to track a starting problem. My Blazer decided to not start. It just does NOTHING when you turn the key. Jumping doesnt help. It did this last year too. Im thinking starter wire or a bad spot on the starter.

Oh and its in the front... Not the dipstick or return lines.

I dunno about Advance never been in on, doubt they will very much for the mk3 though. Maybe oil cooler lines? Try cleaning some of the mess up that turning it on (make sure it's got plenty of oil) and see if it shoots out any more oil....

^ yeah, if it's leaking THAT bad it should be fairly obvious where it's coming from.

Well we sat at the car running for a while... I was 2 quarts low on oil...

We only saw 2 drips... With the spray all over the passenger side it should have been flowing... So we drove it some and then parked it. No drips.

So I simple greened the front of the engine compartment and hosed it down.

I still cant locate the leak.... Its seeming like a long highway drive is what sets it off. We drove it around town and on the highway but no oil dripped when I parked it. Now tuesday both times I parked it after driving 30 miles it left a 9 inch diameter puddle in the parking spot.

Thats too much Supra blood flow for me.

Where the devil is it coming from?

Other than what's already been suggested, the only thing I can think of is the CPS O-ring (since it was worked on). It shouldn't spray oil all over the place like that, but if they left it off, it would be a pretty good leak.

You know thats a possibility... What if it was installed wrong? It didnt leak until I did a 105 mile round trip. So far the mechanic is not inspiring a lot of confidence in me. But hey it was under warranty and they have to fix it.

But 6$ a quart is expensive to bleed all over the ground

If the CPS O-ring was twisted, torn, re-used old, or left off...it can leak. The oil would run below the CPS and then who knows where else. At highway speed, I guess the oil could be blown around all over that side of the motor, but I'm just speculating.

Look to see if the head/block is wet with oil right below the CPS...check your valve cover gaskets while you're at it.

Maybe it's some type of oil line that's got a small crack/leak in it that doesn't open up easily until the oil and engine is fully warmed up and pumping out a decent amount of pressure.....:dunno:

I did warm it up and book down the highway... I was a bit nervous about going too far after dropping 2 quarts.

The only major change in the past 3 weeks was my CPS seal was replaced at the dealer under warranty... But the oil is up under my K&N filter, all over the power steering pump. and the wire cluster...

I think the guy screwed up my CPS gasket. You might be on to something.

You can also buy dye that will mix into your oil and use a UV light to see were the leak is coming from. This oil leak seems to be really kicking your butt so you might want to try this to find all the leaks.
