Recently read the A e Haas oil 101 et. seq. series and decided to change the oil in my perfectly running 7M GTE to 0-40 synthetic and within 150 miles spun a rod bearing. Just had gotten car running following a used JDM transplant about 1500 miles ago and thought all was well. Oil pressure seemed the same with the new oil and I know it isn't likely that the new oil is what caused the problem, but it makes you think. I had pulled the head and oil pan on the engine prior to install and the bores still had cross-hatching and no upper ridge could be felt. Rep-laced valve guide seals and used ARP bolts to re-assemble. I have not yet pulled engine, so I'll post more details as I get them. Comments on oil welcome.

Yup, always check or replace bearings if you pull the pan. It's a huge PITA to deal with later and something VERY easy to do when the engine is out.

Good luck to ya, hopefully the crank isn't damaged beyond repair and new bearings (maybe undersized) with a crank grind will remedy the situation.
